Since I am ready to order my new computer, I still need a monitor. I am thinking less than $200 Canadian (300 if I utterly have to), I don't really know what the prices are, and the bigger stores around here (have not been to the small ones yet) only have LCDs. I am suspecting I can't get a good LCD for that much so i am settiling on the old, er, whatever they are called monitors., I just don't know what to look for.

Aye, I just ordered my computer from them Wednesday, I would prefer to get one localy so I don't have to pay shipping. I was wondering though what are things to look for, like, refresh rates or whatever they are called, etc. Also I do want to spend more than $250 MAX, preferably LESS.

Ok, re-phrasing my question.

I have gone back and double searched the last few pages and found threads I missed, however I am still confused about a couple of things and now I am having mind blanks as to what exactly I was asking so If I could just have info about the following (like, whats good for gaming).

1) Resolution
2) Response Time
3) I forget, there is other stuff for sure. I'm just so confused right now I am gonig away for a week and when I get back my comp should have arrived

Just out of curiosity, how is this monitor for gaming?

You might want to see if there are any business/schools having sellouts in your area. My college was having a sellout, and I picked up a couple of 19" Flat-CRT Dell Trinitrons for $5 each. They are five years old but still, at a price like that you can't lose. Thing is, these places will have to pay to dispose of them otherwise, so they pretty much will give them away. You can save yourself a lot of money this way!

I tell you what, you won't be at CRT for picture quality yet with an LCD. If you don't mind the space, you really will get a lot more monitor with the CRT for your money.

I personally love Viewsonic monitors. Did a quick search for local retailers on Vancouver Island and came up with (no idea if they are even remotely near you...):

London Drugs Limited - Nanaimo
2-650 South Terminal Avenue
Nanaimo BC

Costco Wholesale
6700 Island Hwy N
NANAIMO BC

@ew: The ones I am aware of I missed :( I'll keep my eyes open though.
@VRWC: Aye, thanks, I have the space. I live near Courtenay which is about 50 minutes to the north, we have a london Drugs there so maybe they might have it. I am passing through nanaimo tomorrow I won't be able to stop. I'll check the other computer stores around town on Wednesday.

What's all the hype about LCD? I actually prefer CRT. Many of the classrooms at my college have LCD monitors and I can't stand them. They are very difficult to look at for long periods of time, they strain my eyes, and they look all weird inverted colors if you don't view them dead-on.

I found an adapter so I got the monitor plugged in. Then I found a big problem so I lugged it all the way back to here.

EDIT: I decided on an LCD in the end, it was on sale, a 17 inch 1400:1 contrast. 8rms. Will do.
