What to reasearch in the Industrial Ages!

I started this one, because the other one seemed to be heading in the direction of discussing the trades...

I did not know Goonie, sorry about that. It must have been my imagination when I looked at the thread title ;). Anyway, Ill have the Science Department sponser doth this thread and the other thread :).

I still have to disagree with Goonie. They way we've been going, any attempt to research medicine will only end up being futile because once we've finished, another civ (likely Babylon of Persia) will have finished researching it three turns earlier and will have traded it away.

Goonie has a point though.....civs do tend to ignore Sanitation.

I am all for getting panzers as long as we have Hoover Dam to grease the production machine. What am I saying? I am all for panzers anyway, but Hoover Dam would sure help.

Well, if we go for Panzers, I'm happy. If we go for Medicine/Sanitation, I'm happy. If my guess is right, if we do capitalize on Sanitation, our growth rate won't really allow us to take advantage of the Tech Race until the Modern Age. But, of course, we will have Panzers by then and will be kicking butt left and right, which will allow us to get to the point I've just mentioned. Speaking of which, shouldn't we just be discussing which Techs to buy...not research?

I definately would prefer researching steam power and then industrialization first. These techs are on the road to Panzers, the military applications of railroads are immense (not to mention the domestic benefits), and the construction of Universal Suffrage will be most important when we begin our offensive with the tanks. Furthermore, it is my experience that the AI tends to research medicine and communism first, or at least before advancing to industrialization. We still have a good chance of being one of the first to finish researching this tech, and besides being able to use it as a bargaining piece, we also have a good chance at this wonder if we use a prebuild strategy.

I agree with Goonie.... We can most likely buy steam power by a near-by civ much sooner than we can research it. Would you rather rate 30 turns or 10?

We seem to be using the term "research" rather loosely in this thread. I don't know that this demogame has actually secured a tech by research more than once or twice in its history to date. More than likely we are just setting priorities for purchase.

Hey, I'm an OLD science leader.... when I hear research I think of research.

@Eyrei. I agree we need Steam Power. Why not let the AI research steam power for us like we do now, but slide the slider up and research medicine and Sanitation and reap the rewards? Imagine to GPT, flooding in! It would be a great asset to us, and after that, we could continue on the line to MT. For the first time, we might be able to pull ahead in the tech race!

I think bumping up the slider would be a bad idea.... We can only get a tech in 5 turns at the max.... I think if we can make more scientists then we could do much better.

Strider-NO! :p

Techs are much cheaper to buy (remember the math last turn chat? ;)). Anyway, I think after sanitation, we should make for steam power/industiralization. If we choose to go to a democracy, we'll need Universal Suffrage for the war warriness.

subliminal message: my 5,000th post!

Why has that term become so popular?

Anyway... I don't know about you guys, but I want to be able to aleast research a tech in 30 turns.... Hopefully even 20.

Congrats on your 5,000th post CT.

@Strider - The only reason I used that phrase was it popped into my mind when I read your post about not knowing anything about the topic of the thread you posted. You haven't looked at a save in a couple of months? If I were have expanded on the phrase, it would have been "Strider - NO! Go lay down, bad puppy..."

My neighbor has a miniature pinscher that has the nickname "badpuppy!". Guess who was the obidience school dropout? :p

meanwhile... back in the demogame...
