...and what benefits do they confer? Couldn't seem to find info anywhere online.

I think golden ages are just the equivalent of the "We love the leader day" events in civilization 2, where if you have no unhappy people, and more talents than mediums, the city gets more productive in some way.

Hmm, well I know a base with a Golder Age gets +Growth (+2 I think), allowing easier Pop-Booming...

It's all there in the datalinks, geez.

A {Golden Age} occurs when a base has no $LINK<Drones=36>, and
the number of $LINK<Talents=37> at least
equals the number of regular Workers and $LINK<Specialists=51>.
^
A Golden Age significantly increases a base's {growth} rate and {energy} production--
equivalent of +1 $LINK<ECONOMY=130000> and +2 $LINK<GROWTH=130006> on the social
engineering table.

the datalinks are a part of the game.
Any of the F buttons has another button down the bottom that shows the datalinks, and under Menu-> Help you can access the entries too.

If playing SMACX i recommend you use my update (see sig), as there are some incorrect entries and many omissions.

Yeah I know, but I don't have access to the game at the moment.
