What unit you DONT use

Stealth Bombers. Never play long enough to get them.

Ironclads, Paratroopers and Cruise Missiles are high in the ranking of useless units, I also rarely use Explorers, they are only useful for exploitive gameplay.

Horsemen, because a) I advance past them to soon and b) they aren't very good and c) knights are just plain better.

I never use ships, unless mounting a transcontinental invasion. Never had the need to control the seas, since the AI is too stupid to use naval bombardment to their advantage.

The Horsemen to Knight wait is a loooong one. Can you really do without a 2-mover that long? Besides, Horsemen, while not the best attackers, have retreat. Use them to weaken city defenders before the swords finish them off.

Their other use is to quickly reinforce a city against that AI stack of Archers or Horses.

Chariots, they always disapear to fsat.
Helecoptors. Could anyone give me some advice on how to use them affectively.
longbowman because I'm never at war when they come along, I either make an early attack or wait until knights
Explorers, though i read somewhere that I should

I'd never used Mobile SAMs as I thought they're totally useless never doing ANYTHING.
Then over the weekend in the heat of battle one of my cities built one without me noticing and for some reason I put it on sentry rather than fortify. Then to my great surprise it shot down a bomber.

Never build Ironclads. Though I might now just in case they've some super feature I've not discovered before.

yeh, same ships are a taboo for me as i usually play pangea maps.

Chariots I just wait till Horseman or Swordsman

Longbowman I build Knights or MDI instead

Explorer I have no use for it

Helicopter Umm...no

Paratroopers Only in WWII Conquest :yeah:

Stealth Bomber Don't usually get that far

Stealth Fighter Useless

Cruise Missile Don't like them

Stealth Fighters useless?
I always use them to scout out enemy territories before bombarding, how else should i know what the hell im aiming at?

About Mobile SAMs; the ai once sent 9 bombers on my city with three sams in it and if i recall correctly they downed four of them(at least three), its seems to me they can down multiple units instead of fighter one-shot. And about fighters, i belive that a failed AS roll results in a fighter not even engaging enemy aircraft AND loses ability to intercept next bomber.

Guerrilas i regarded as useless for a long time, but ive found they can be quite useful.
1.The passive bombardment = support for infantries.
2.Same attack rating as inf. and cavalry.
Artillery is normally used as support behind inf, but they can be bulky with their vulnerability and you really dont want them captured ore destroyed.

Helis is for dropping infantry on enemy resources to pillage them.

Cruise missile finish damaged units, they are mobile in your territory unlike bombers AND have better range than infanty.

Finally, some points on knights.
1. Researching chivalry is a waste of research, i always go for theology for sistine chapel and further to education for universities, you can always trade for feudalism.
2. Knights are to expansive, in really pressed situations you dont have any use for the 2 move, pikemen/longbowmen for defense is much more effective wilsts using MDI/longbowmen for offense

No use of:
Chariot.
Paratroopers.
Helicopters.
Aegis Cruiser. ( My games never last that much ).
Explorers.
Stealth Fighter.
For a number of other units their use depends on my S.R.

I never use explorers or scouts (prefer warriors or horsemen for that chore) I never build ironclads.. also tend to stay away from units I can't upgrade to riflemen, infantry or cavalry.. Circumstances will play a roll, of course.. but that's the general rule

You don't use Scouts? They're the major advantage of being an expansionist civ. You get a two mover at the beginning dozens of turns before other civs can build them. Scout of the best settling locations, meet all your neighbors and trade with them early.

I have never used IRONCLADS in conquests.
they are just not worth researching their thech.
