We know from pre-release footage that Carthage has the Numidian Cavalry as the Unique Military Unit. Who do you think the other unique unit will be? Will it be a Unique Civilian Unit or a Unique Military Unit? A naval unit or a land unit? Bear in mind that both regular looking galleys and quadriremes have been spotted for Carthage.

As they are channeling Civ 5 Venice I would guess a civilian unit. Perhaps a unique fleet commander capable of interacting with city states.

A unique fleet commander that is unlocked in the Antiquity Age and is kept after the age transition is a nice idea. You will have professional fleet commanders ready for use before anyone else in the Exploration Age.

Do we know for certain that is a unique cavalry unit? It's hard for me to tell if that is a Numidian Cavalry, which would be a shame, just because I'd like that to go to an actual Numidian/Berber civ. They should have some sort of naval unit, if they are also going to have the Cothon. I don't care whether it's military or civilian.

I'm fairly certain it was put in the back on purpose when Carthage was teased. The horsemen seem to carry circular shields with zebra and cow skins, from a quick search Numidian cavalry figures look identical to what I describe. The regular looking galleys and quadriremes mean that Carthage won't have a unique warship this time unfortunately, but we might get a unique civilian trade ship with unique art.

Yeah, I'm just not certain if they are unique, or they based the regional African horsemen generic unit off of them. I haven't seen what Egypt or Aksum Horsemen units look like, so I'm unsure.

The round hide shields were considered emblematic of Numidian cavalry, along with armament of several javelins.

A Carthaginian unique warship is unlikely since the Quadrireme is the only known ancient/classical polyreme 'invented' in Carthage and it is already the common warship in Antiquity. They had converted to the Quinquereme as their standard 'battleship' by the Punic Wars, but that type was invented in Syracuse around 400 BCE.

My suspicion is a unique 'civilian' unit, either a Trader/Merchant or a Fleet Commander. The former would directly reflect the extreme importance of trade to Carthage specifically and Phoenicia in general, while the latter would be a nice reflection of the naval domination of the western Mediterranian before the Romans - and only by exerting an immense percentage of their strength at it - beat them.

The only problem I see is that Aksum already has a Unique Trade Ship in Antiquity, which would make yet another such unit a bit redundant. That speaks to either something completely different or a Unique Merchant with some kind of special ability. A chance to establish trade routes with IPs regardless of Diplomatic status would be a perfect fit for Carthage's historical ability to trade across the spectrum of tribes, group and city states.

I'd bet on a unique Settler of some sort. Not sure what they'd name it though, maybe they could be lazy and just go for a synonym. It'd work.

I'm less bummed about that than the Numidian Cavalry took away a potential naval combat unit.
Also probably means no Numidia or similar Antiquity Maghreb civ.

Numidia has a very slim chance to still appear. They adopted African war elephants from the Carthaginians, who had employed them during the Punic Wars. Numidian war elephants were also provided to the Romans and even carried turrets by the middle of the first century BC. It will be funny though, if Carthage has the Numidian Cavalry, and Numidia the African War Elephant, since both countries introduced the opposite unit to one another.
