What's that Boom-chugga-chugga sound?

Sometimes after a turn processes and the new turn starts, I hear a mechanical boom-chugga sound, and it usually repeats a few times.

Does anyone know what it means? There are no notifications.

Yeah. Barbarian camp spawned.
I would also love if there where a notification, like the one for the goodie-huts.

I tend to go into strategic view, find it easier to see the camps then.

Whilst it might be the barbarian camp sound effect the others mentioned, you said 'mechanical' which makes me think that what you're hearing might be the audio for when late-game siege weapons move, there seems to be a minor bug that means the sound loops a few times more than it needs to before stopping - so that might be the explanation too :)

Yep Barb Camp. Look around to see where it is. If you are playing Sumeria this is the best noise you'll hear as it means another goody hut :D

Strategic view is excellent to find the camps (or anything else really). Due to my PC I am forced to only use it but every now and then I check the normal 3D view to see what things would've looked like and honestly I don't feel like I'm missing anything.

There is another sound that happens exactly when my units heal before a turn starts, but I really doubt it's a sound effect for healing because it doesn't happen all the time. Not sure how to describe it and really wish anything that triggers a sound effect would have a notification.

No, not the barbarian sound --- that's low pitched drums and a male vocal hoo! sound. The sound I'm wondering about is mechanical, not human.

That could be it. Except that it happens right AFTER the turn processes, so everyone has already moved. :(

bump. I'd like to know this too.

I was thinking it was something getting pillaged sound, but I may be wrong about this.

Hmm... Hard to know as it is hard to explain the sound.
I'll keep an ear out for it in my games and come back to you if I find out.

EDIT: It isn't the goodie-huts you are hearing?

I think I've figured out what you're talking about.

If I'm not mistaken, it's the sound of a city ready for a new production - sometimes it repeats several times in a row as soon as your turn starts. Definitely seems like a glitch, though not sure what the cause is - my best guess is that several cities are done with their previous item, so each one's "ready" sound is queued up (not tested)

That definitely sounds like a city just finished its production and needs you to select a new item to produce.

I didn't realize a sound played when a city finished production. I'm glad that mystery has been solved.

As for sounds, thankfully I've adapted to the spy sound. The first couple of times hearing the spy sound scared the hell out of me.

Yeah, that's what it sounds like to me too.

The saxophone stinger that plays? I love that sound effect, its so goofy but also perfect at the same time

Sounds like tha' breathin' o' the Kraken, me hearties! As the map shows, here be dragons... :eekdance::eekdance:

That makes sense...
Except there are plenty of times when a city has finished production and needs a new item selected, but the sound does not occur :( Crazy!

Speaking of weird sounds, can anyone tell me what the metallic sound is that happens in a city that kind of sounds like a sword sound (although I'm in the modern era), and a flash happens in one of my cities (my capital actually). The latest case happening in my capital. I have seen/heard this sound before in other cities, but this game it's happening a lot in my cities, and I wish I knew what was happening. It kind of sounds like a sword slicing on stone. It's not a missionary conversion since my religion is still 100% present.

It's the sound and visual effect when something happens somewhere. You'll see and hear it for example when you start building something in a city. I'm assuming this is the sound/visual effect of a spy heading to your city, but I'm not sure yet. Could be a clue you need to counter-spy there...

Thanks. Most likely a spy, I'm getting hit by a lot of spies at this point in the game. I already have a counterspy in my industrial zone and one in my commercial district.
