What's Up With the History Channel?

Finally! A place where I can vent my frustrations! And with people who understand them!

I totally agree. History channell has went south this past year. All I ever see listed is ******** reality shows like Axe Men and Ice Road Truckers or that Fishing show. Same with that life after people thing or the universe. And they also keep playing that dumb Monsterquest show about fictional beasts. Hello!! Isn't this supposed to be the HISTORY Channell? Where are all the history shows like Engineering an Empire? Or the documentaries about various revolutions or warrior civilizations? Even Spike TV has better shows about history like that one where they take warriors from history and anylize each weapon in their arsenal and then simulate them in battles, complete with an excellent hollywood style battle at the end.

What is it with tv channells these days completely dropping the programing their supposed to have according to their name? They've all gone the route of MTV and just play crappy "reality shows". I.E. CMT and VH1 no longer play music videos. Cartoon Network even stops playing cartoons sometimes. Discovery Channel hardly ever has any nature, scientific, or history shows. It's all crappy so called "reality" shows such as shows about mechanics building a car or motorcycle or something. Even Myth Busters is too reality styled to be enjoyable.

You didnt like the Universe show GTFO!!

I like Universe, Evolve, UFO-Files, Dinosaur Secrets and Monster Quest, but not Axe Men and Ice Road Truckers. Obviously, they are popular though! Why else would the channel broadcast them?

But even if you dislike all these shows, there are so much history to have on this channel. Ancient Discoveries (brilliant show!), Decoding the Past, Investigating History, Engineering an Empire, and special programs about Sparta, Rome, Tsarist Russia, Barbarians and much more...

Tonight there will be a program about the Falklands War. That should be really interesting...

I would have liked a little more history programs about World War I, Korea War, Vietnam War, Middle Eastern Wars and the Middle Ages, but is still very happy with what I get! But I have´n´t watched the channel for that long, so I can´t really say if it has gotten better or worse, but if History Channel need to fill out its history shows with some mainstream, pseudo-scientific but popular programs to survive, I can happily live with it!

Band of Brothers borders on being a memoir/documentary (docudrama?) though, at least as much as could be reasonably expected from anything termed 'history'. It's based on interviews of field leaders and their soldiers.
Yeah, I was more referring to the other two (Longest Day, and Saving Private Ryan).
No matter what it still beats the hell out of NCIS marathons on a history channel.

Well normally I would love space shows (I used to want to be an astronaut as a kid) but when I tune into the History Channell, I expect to see programing about historical civilizations, cultures, and wars. Universe was just not what I was looking for.

Engineering and Empire is the series that got me to actually sit down and keep watching the History Channell in the first place. So naturally I'd like to see more shows like that. Before I saw the Engineering an Empire episode on the Byzantines, I never bothered to watch History Chanell programing in my life. I thought it was too boring. But seeing that captured my interest and kept it as long as they has likewise shows (such as Ancient Discoveries and Decoding the Past... and I LOVED the mini series about the American Revolution).
