If it's not in the right folder, please correct that.

Been twice now that whenever I get to late eras, I cannot resume a saved file.

Maybe it's just me? Can anyone confirm it's not working at all? What's the reasons if anyone know?

Bah I cannot put it here, 1meg big and the limit is 500k, anyone wanna check it out? I'll send it via email.

If not, just bah then.

Huh, are you kidding??

don't you know that the white dove meows at midnight??

that the plains of russia are nestled with snow in the winter??

and that I am looking for a good friend of my uncle's...he sells 'meat' in these parts?

Sorry, I am a little confused by this post. Can you explain a bit more?

sorry, yeah, it was confusing.

I have a save (cannot put it here since it's bigger than 500kb). That save is bugged, it doesn't work at least for me.

Everytimes I go beyond a certain size (I'm presuming) OR the game is going to a certain length, I cannot load a save file. So I end up getting compressing error, or seeing Sid Mieyers's face with all barbarians as the opponents and so on.

I can send the save via email if anyone wanna check it out.

I want to know what can be done and how to resolve that situation.

Thanks!

What if you try loading the autosave for the time around that turn, and play around it?

I assume you are a little kid or some jerk who gets joy out of posting irrelevent and useless comments on forums. This is the first time i have seen this kind of trolling on these forums.

The bottem of this screen shows some options in the red bar:

Forum Rules - Chat Room - Upload File - Contact Us -etc.

You need the Upload File and it allows you to upload files of up to 3MB in size.

Your problem could have to do something with the amount of memory your computer has. Do you happen to have 512 MB of system memory? Larger savegame files typically need more memory to run the game.

If this really is the problem, then you could try the following things:
-Install the latest patch, v1.52 that reduces memory usage somewhat
-Wait for the next patch that should improve memory usage even more
-Increase virtual memory on your computer. It doesn't give you a fast game, but at least playable.
-Play on smaller maps
-Buy another 512 MB of system memory

I would be willing to test your savegame on my computer. Upload it here and I'll test if it works on my computer.

You must have done something wrong, because there's no link to your file in the above post.

I got the same error with that save. I've never had that problem before. Do you have an autosave for the last turn it worked? Maybe figure out when it stops working and that might help lead to a solution (or pinpointing a problem so Firaxis can easily solve it).

what the heck is that, anyway??

first, it's huge in size.
on loading it i get a screen with a picture of sid???, and on the left i get a bunch of civs, all american, to be checked off, and on the right i get a picture of the mongol leader, i think.
I've never seen this screen.
is it a scenario??

i see you get it too
i have no idea what is going on.

what were the original settings?

Wow that's weird. If you try to load it then you get a screen with Sid Meier and the choise between a large number of copies of the American civilization. Wierd. You can then select go and it then crashes with a remark: failed to decompress. Very weird.

Never seen something like that. No idea why it happens.

There's a connection between the size of the savefile and the memory the game needs to run. This game probably needs about 1 GB of memory to run. Is it on a big map and in the late game? Maybe it's a bit much for your computer and something goes wrong with the saving of the game.

No mod, no scenario, nothing.

Just plain ordinary game (custom, no space victory, culture flip on and no cheat I think)

There's only 2 possibilities: an intentional alteration of the save file or an unintentional one.

An unintentional cause could be a file corruption.. or a bug in the code. I wouldn't think it's a bug since I've never heard of this happening to anyone before. If it was a bug it was bound to have happened to someone else already and we'd have heard about it.

An intentional cause is far more unlikely than an unintentional one. Copy protection? Unlikely, we would have heard about that too. Virus? Designed to specifically alter a civilization 4 save file? Too complicated to be close to the truth. An intended part of the code, somehow? A random back door left by a disgruntled employee, meant to be rare enough that he'd never get caught.. but annoying nevertheless. Seems like a complicated explanation too.

Nah, Occam's Razor would seem to indicate that we have a corrupted save file on our hands.

The entire savefile is totally empty (all zeros)..

Guessing something bad happened when it was saved..
