Whats your internet connection speed?

I swear. I must be the last person on earth with Dial up.

I just got broadband on Wednesday :D Had been using a 56k for about 5 or 6 years before that, so 1mb/s is fantastic for me :)

ADSL, 1Mbps download/300kbps upload :)

lol maybe we should open a dial up charity, if you could spare 2KB a month to help someone less fortunate than you, these peoples are human to, but they cannot cope with these sub standard connections.

Go ahead Gainy and Rub it in. :p
Actually, I got my parents to switch by getting them addicted to e-mail and online news(my dad canceled the newspaper subscriptions). When we had the 28kb/s they complained how slow it was, so I handed them a flyer from our local high speed internet service and I've had cable internet ever since! My dad even said that once you've tried it, you can't go back.

Oh I should mention the other one, my brother has a wireless thing built into his computer for when he is at the university, so when that works(it very rarely works here) it gets either 1-2Mbps, 5MBps, or 11MBps. However it normally hovers around 1MBps. :(

My father does not handle change well. I have been buggin him for a year now to get DSL or cable, just something faster the AOL!. He actually said he wanted to get rid of AOL once, after it stopped working for 8 hours( my firewall I had at the time blocked it :mischief: )and tech support was no help. He changed his mind the next morning. I didn't have a quick reaction plan in place at the time. Now I do. :D Now I am gonna make him promise the next time he says that(he seems to take those so seriously  .)

I have broadband because after a year with AOL and their amazing dial up, they said because i wasn't on a BT phone line i could only use it for 1 hour a day, so my dad quickly told them what he thought and went with blueyonder broadband.

Is there any reason why you should only be able to use a none BT phoneline for only an hour?

Do you guys have a neighbor with wireless internet?

Don't feel too badly...I'm running a 28.8 AOL dial-up...no DSL service and my only other option is cable....can't see spending that kind of money.

Um, I haven''t figured out where it's coming from. The signal is always low.:hmm:

BTW how would I figure out how fast my connection is? And how do I close a port?

when you're connected to the internet, down on the left side of your screen by the clock, there should be an icon that looks like two computer screens.Click it.

Nope that doesn't work. AOL apperently doesn't want me to know how slow it is.

I know what you meant the first time. The thing just says
Wireless Network Connection
Wireless connection unavailable

Im at work on a T1 or T3 connection and I just clocked in at over 15Mbps. I don't know what the limit is supposed to be here. At home its 10mbps cable. I haven't used dial up for quite some time but the last time I did it was very frustrating.

AOL doesn't like to tell you how fast or slow it's going.

There are two things you can do, MC. Pay close attention to the sign-on screen. Very briefly you can see what the connection is. I found it one in one of AOL's sub programs, but that was version 7, haven't seen it since.

Or you can google 'Speed Test' and find a website that will check your connection speed. Some of these files they send can be big, so make sure that the site isn't sending a huge MP3 (which is how some do it)...
