When did Firaxis start development?

The reason I ask is because they estimate a Fall 2010 release and that seems very very close for such a huge game. I hope they're not rushing the game to meet publisher demands or whatnot. I don't mind waiting another year for a more polished product.

Depending on what engine they're using for graphics, between 1 and 2 years ago is likely. I seem to remember an interview with Sid Meier saying that Firaxis was working on something, but it was never specified what.

Don't worry. Civilization is like the kid of Sid Meier. They won't do like EA games or lucasarts and rush a game.

I think they're already working like 1-2 years on it as bunny.

So youre saying the game will be a bit better than well for example colonization 2(civ 4) ? unlikeley the graphics gonna be a LOT bigger.

How the hell did you get that out of my comment?

I said that depending on what engine they're using, the development time is going to be different. If they're using an upgraded civ 4 engine, then it will be less than if they make a new one.

Oh ,well there is some small chance of using an upgraded civ 4 engine..:crazyeye: my reply was not really about development time :mischief:

Considering the current screenshots, Id wager that they are in fact using an upgraded CIV engine.

Also, I realize that your comment wasnt on development time. In fact, I have no idea what its doing in this thread!

Map size has little to no effect on graphics performance. Map size is primary cpu and RAM bottlenecked.

The difference in map sizes between tiny and huge on CIV is like 2 fps for me. When we're talking about high 80's for FPS, its not that big of a difference.

With those specs, how you expect to run a 2010-era game at high settings and get a good framerate is beyond me.

Just 1? Id go for 2 or 4 if it were me. Even with the near-doubling of flash prices over the last year, 4GB can still be had for a decent price.

It won't be enough. They're not Black Isle, so I doubt they'll be deliberately be playing to their less advanced audience.

That costs more than buying a single 2GB stick for one, and you can never have enough RAM.
