Ok I know I'm not a great player, but I'm pretty organized, careful, precise, and I know some decent strategies.

Before this patch I did not have any problems beating the game on emperor. Now I am in the year 1800 and I have control of my continent. I am a solid second place on the scoreboard, 300 more points than the 3rd place civ. However England is in 1st place with a commanding 600 point lead that keeps growing. I am building wonders, teching as fast as possible, and dominating my continent, but I'm no match for England.

Is it possible to win a space victory when behind so much in the year 1800 or should I just start over on King?

The AI isn't all that good at grabbing a game victory within their reach. For all you know, England might not even build the Apollo Program even if it has the means to. So don't quit even though you're lagging behind in the score.

Score doesn't mean all that much, I'd say you'll be able to win without any difficulty.

What he said.
The biggest factor in score is how big your empire is, not how well you're doing. It's not that difficult to win with only one city (on King), but you'll most likely be dead last in score.

I have to somewhat qualify this though. When you say you are no match for England in your current game, do you mean that a) they just have a higher score or b) they have Giant Death Robots backed up with rocket artillery and stealth bombers vs. your brand spankin' new riflemen? If it's 'a', don't worry. If 'b', you have a problem.

Thanks everybody

Two things:

1) I started a new game and played more aggressively. I have the highest score this game and lead many of the demographics. What I did was eliminate my neighbor to the east and north early game so I have the coast for protection. Last game I was simultaneously fighting multiple nations mid game and being stuck in the middle of all of them getting group DOW.

2) You guys are probably right about the score not meaning all that much. But when I play I try to have the highest score and be the most dominant civ on Earth. This is more important to me than actually getting the science victory. However, if I'm going for cultural or diplo victory I don't really worry about score. I only play on Emperor and I know I can get the highest score, on Immortal, I would be happy to just get the win. But I would probably get run over on Immortal.
