A Medieval GA, with knights all around crushing AI neighbours that's fun, then industrial age is more relaxed.:hammer:

It's weird - lots of people (including me) like our GA as soon after changing to Republic as possible.

Recently however I have realised the huge gain in having a second core of moderate size - one of my recent games was very badly placed for my initial palace core and I had to invade with horses to get my FP core going (and use a leader to rush the FP).

The nature of this meant that I naturally had my second core going by the time I got to Riders and my GA (I was China). By maximising food over production I managed to get a decent size FP core (in terms of pop), and the effect of my GA was almost double of what it would have been if I had it just 20 or 30 turns earlier.

This makes me think that if you are going to get an FP core up and running very soon, or that if you have a newly founded FP core it may be worth delaying your GA if possible to take full advantage of it. This goes against the adage "Get your GA as soon after government change as possible"...

Prefer the early industrial age. I understand that an early medieval GA is very powerful as well, but I like to be in GA when building factories, ToE, Hoover, Stock Exchanges.

This is in SP, when I think that you can really outpace the AI on deity as from the early industrial age.

In PBEM I prefer a very early GA (after getting Republic).

I voted Medioeval.
It normally is early medioeval, because -as many already pointed out- of the wealth of new units, buildings and wonders.
Actually, about 99% of my GAs take place early in the Middle Ages.

On occasion, I can wait till late Medioevar-Early industrial, to cope with the large increase in tech research.

I voted Medieval, but really I'm about equally happy for anything between late (read post-Despotic) Ancient to early Industrial.

Why I prefer a non-Despotic GA should require no explanation. Later than early Industrial (where it can help big time with building Factories all over the place) I usually find to late to have much of an impact.

Early to mid Industrial to get all those great Great Wonders. Late medieval is fine as well.

I like to get my GA in the early to mid medieval age. Knights, Republic, SUn Tzu. :goodjob:

Depends on what my goal is in the game, in SP games, I usually prioritize early spaceship launches, and then I prefer to have my GA just after entering the Industrial Age, to compensate for the huge increase in tech costs so to keep the tech pace at 4/turn.

However, for my PBEMs, I'd rather have an earlier GA, because if you don't get it reasonably early, and your opponent does, you have the chance of getting overrun, or at the very least fall behind considerably in economic output, and PBEMs usually don't reach the Industrial Age anyways. :)

I like late Medieval/ early Industrial. With the Ottomans this is a natural. Sipahi can take out riflemen and make mincemeat of Musketmen. I prefer to wait until Steam Power so I can use my industrious workers to rail right to the front and then blast the hell out of them with Sipahi. Unless they have Infantry in their towns they are toast regardless of their size.

Modern, as I get the most out of it and can use it to win the space race or finish off my enemy and build tons of nukes.

Late medieval.

This is useally the first time I really go to war. Before that I like to make wars, gain allies, so that they keep them selves occupied and I can get some tech head start.

After I've got my second (FP) core up and running, so that's usually early to halway through the Middle Ages...

never i ussally forget i am in a golden age and then i do stupid mistakes that will cost me a city/cities in the future.

Late Ancient/Early Medieval.
Ideally I'd get my GA right after a government switch to Republic so I could use it to build as many city improvements as possible. Then I could focus more on building units in the early Middle Ages.

I like my GA when I have set up my cities and they have grown a bit, but not too late. the GA is great for producing an army fast.
Usually for me, late Ancient or Medieval. Last time with the Germans, I couldn't trigger it (even with 3 SciLeaders) befor Industrious age - but then it was awsome.

Achieving GA with wonders early on is difficult. But with defensive UU's (like swiss mercs which not som often get attacked) you can almost decide when to trigger it.
Another (good/lousy?) strategy is to attack your opponents UU ASAP in the game to spoil his GA.

Medieval: By this time my cities are fairly large, and most will have Marketplaces and Libaries, so the commerce increase is amplified. Through this period most cities will build Banks and Universities, and/or the army can be expanded, treasury increased, and several Wonders become available. By the end the AI is usually far behind, and I'm well setup to enter the Industrial Age.

Late Ancient or Early Middle. I do a bunch of my warring starting towards the end of the Ancient age and basically non-stop until Military Tradition. So, a GA here really boosts my production when transitioning from Swordsmen to Knights.

Hmmm ... Time for a naive question: What is a GA?

I know it must have something to do with your UU, but I can't quite figure it out. If it is the time period that your UU appears, then I do like the Panzer, in the Modern Ages. The Zulu Impi also gives you a good head start defending yourself in the Ancient Era.
