When do you think we'll have a president with a 5 syllable last name? Someone like myself. How likely do you think someone would vote for me if they can't pronounce my last name?

Judge not a man by his character, but by his last name. Nevermind your stance on abortion, Mr. Wojciechowski, how do you pronounce your last name?

So, no chances for Basque-americans living in Idaho with long surnames like Urrutikoetxea, Cenarruzabeitia or Garaikoetxea?

Is Urederra short enough?

I didn't think that having it too long was a problem  I believed it was something to be proud of.

Meah. There's nothing like a hard-to-pronounce surname.

George Stephanopolis '08!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hopefully not. Having a leader with a name of more than 2 syllables is frightfully vulgar. Unless hyphens count.

Schwar-ze-neg-ger, 4 ... nevermind.

Red Stranger came up with this silly thread because of Ahmadinejad's last name, obviously.

Red Stranger, all you have to do is speak the things you write here and I'm certain you wouldn't be the president.

What does Ahmadinejad have to do with being president?

In our history, Eisenhower is the president with the most syllables... Four. The OP has a last name with five. The OP is not being compared with the leader of Iran.

Ok, so I was guessing he was thinking of Ahmadinejad or reading about him or whatever when he made this thread. Ahmadinejad has an unusual name with many syllables. Other than that, this thread has nothing to do with the president of Iran.

I missed that link. Sorry. I don't know the spelling of Iranian President's last name. It didn't click that it would have five syllables. I have never heard it pronounced correctly, I guess. I've only ever heard it pronounced with four syllables so I missed the connection.

quite possibly, who do you thinks winning DL?

Oh, and i voted never... not that there was that option beause anyone wityh a name that long would undoubtable hollywood it to something catchier.

It might actually improve your chances. People would have to waste time on saying your name instead of talking about your inane policy ideas.;)
