when to declare war

Im starting a new thread for reasons to declare war on other civs. heres an odd one that I can think of that happened to me once: when the STUPID AI settles on your ONLY colony with a certain resource! This happened to me once when I was the Greeks I had a 1 colony of horses and doing good with all my chariots when the IDIOT Egyptians come along and settle one square away from my colony. the colony disapeared and now the Egyptians had horses and I had to move the defending hoplite back into my territory. It took me a long time to figure out I should declare war on those stupid weirdos but by by the time I was ready the Iriquois come up and form a military alliance against the Germans who there having a war with and war with two civs was bad for my military then. anyone else have good reasons to declare war???

I declare war on the AI whenever I feel like it, but sometimes I do it to get a hand on precious recources, like coal, uranium or aluminum. I always try and determine their military strength trough spies and I'll attack the weakest civ with the recourse I need. Or I just declare war on the weakest civ on my border and simply annihilate it to gain more land and civpoints.

I attack when I outnumber the computer and I need the territory. If I have limited space to grow then I will usually attack one of the weakest players who do not have an early UU and then after taking most of thier cities its time to sign peace and to try and get as much as possible.

Ya.. because they are next to me. Seems like a good enough reason.

I'm always attacking my friendly neighbor in the first age. All through history civs have done this (hate it when I don't have iron .. archers will do though).

When I'm on an island all by myself and have nobody to attack early in the game, that game usually bites the big one.

If I have somebody next to me to attack, usually a pretty good game (I been doing random everything lately).

I find I'm at war for one of several reasons :

(1) The chance to get Great Leaders is enough by itself.
(2) It seems that the military civs I play are happier when I'm at war.
(3) If I go too long without war, it's to the other civs advantage.
(4) They'll attack me when I don't want it - I might as well time it to my advantage.
(5) To get their great wonders, land, and resources - this not only helps me, but hurts them, so it's double-good. Especially when the land is prime strategic territory.
(6) I like mutual protection pacts - war is a great way to become better friends with your allies.

I declare war and use MPPs so that everybody is at war with somebody else and there is chaos. Why? Do you ask.

Because the AI will go suicidal and switch to communism and self destruct. It will pop rush and go crazy. It will fight wars without the resources or the troops. It will fall behind in techs. It will ignore the space ships and it will build crappy marines so they can be wasted on my armor. That is the time to take advantage. Industrial-modern ages.

Does anyone know if setting propoganda when they go to Anarchy before Communism (or when they are in Communism) works? It would be good to convert some cities during wartime for strategic reasons, but I have never been successful doing this. I may just be wasting my time and money... Do I need to wait until the war ends to try this?

The three main reasons I declare war:

1) If they make The List:
Any AI who blackmails me early in the game when I can't afford a war, seldom reaches the modern age. I complete my revenge during the industrial age, pumping out infantry, artillery, and tanks every few turns in every city. They usually pay me back what I was forced to pay them, plus about 10000% interest if you include cities taken, and units killed


2) If they dare to exist on my world:
Industrial age, once I have dealt with all the List-makers, I pick a nearby target and destroy them, then move onto another. Soon I can control most of the pangea.


3) If they attack France:
Well, France always seems to do bad in most of my games, and Joan is , so I usually help France by destroying its attackers.

France is usually the first country I attack because I think Joan of Arc is not the right leader for France. I simply assimilate her and replace her with my puppet under the name of Napoleon Bonaparte.... :aargh3: --->

Yeah. I love to kick France's butt; they're so puny. I mean, their special unit, the Musketeer, is pretty lame. It is'nt any better at defense than musketmen.

One time I was the Indians and the Japanese had declared war on France and I called up the Japanese and signed an MPP with them. So, I ended up wiping the French off the face of the planet They had discovered gunpowder and had saltpeter but only Paris (the 1st city I captured) had a musketeer defending it. The rest had pikeman. (!?!) Do the French know what UPGRADING means? Jeeez!

P.S. By the way, dose anyone know how I can get Thunderfall to let me have I custom status?
