Where are the actual ingame discussions?

i don't understand why we have all this debate about rules, COS and COL and so on. And not nearly the same amount of discussion about the game itself. sometimes i think we've lost the objective of having a demo game.

I think it's us old elders of the demogame who have essentially split into 2 groups. Those who want the citizentry to vote on every possible outcome (and guess what's going to happen), and those who say the purpose of advisors was to deal with those unforseen circumstances.

I also think we've lost our objective. Just too much arguing about the rules, and barely touching the game. All those law debates thread flood the forum, choking out any resemblence of a discussion. Any discussions seem to be pushed to the bottom of the forum as quickly as the Off Topic forum.

that is a bad thing. Unfortunately, mostpeople i think are people wo just sign up and never post idea's.

And that's ALWAYS the case. The registry can have some 100-200 names in it by games end, but that doesn't mean you'll have 100-200 people participating. Now, maybe if demogame polls were more of a "site-wide thing" (i.e., posting it on the main page, with a "quick" poll included -- the news script should have that feature...), maybe we'd get a LOT more participation, atleast in polls.

I can garuntee you that 1/2 of the people are either pure lurkers, just registered their name for the sake of it, or thought they'd be interested and weren't. We do tend to get close to 50 votes during elections (even nearing 70 one game!), and yet, about 20-30 votes in polls. It kind of shows you that people are more interested in elections, perhaps thinking it's a demogame where leaders make the decisions. Maybe we're making it seem like that. In fact, all the leaders can do now is post a thread and say, "Here's what the situation looks like".

Then there's the percentage that do read the debates and vote, but don't give input.

I also seriously doubt that many people would want to discuss law end over end rather than in-game gameplay.

 You ever notice how it's only the people that break the law who complain about cops (or the law)? You don't hear law abiding citizens complain that much, huh?

I have NO clue what you're talking about. Personally, I'm just trying to make this game more "player friendly" without everyone having to worry about every action they do. If a play stoppage has to be done too frequently, then that slows the game down. A slow game in turns, lessens everyones interest in the game.

It is hard to follow the game when you don't have time to participate in the turnchats (and don't want to read the record everytime).

So is there no kind of "reporter" who writes down all neccesary events and a summary of the situation at the end of every turnchat?

BTW, the next turnchat is 02:00 GMT, which is 03:00 RMT (?) where I live???? well...

That's how it used to be done. Both by the DP giving a detailed summary, and "FNN" (Fanatican News Network, which I started many demogames ago). Both died out sometime last demogame I think. The next turnchat is at 9pm EST (today) BTW.

The distracting element of changing Laws is a major reason why when I was active in the DG (still prob. not gonna be for a while) that I basically ignored law discussions and concentrated on the game, 90% of the time the law changes didn't effect how I ran things.

It seems too many of the law changes (haven't read up recently) are for rather minor things, and tend to be in issues that haven't been a source of problems yet and people just fear "the posibilities for this or that loophole"

The Primary rules here is, "Don't go against the will of the people if it's apparent" and "If the will of the people is unknown on a potentially major issue 'Take it to the Forums!' and find out"

Falcon's idea of the Primary Rules is sensibly right. There is no need to debate about each and every law that must be changed constantly. That is simply not what a nation does at its beginning stages. The Politicians may do that, but not the common citizen. This along with many other needs must be realized. Not 'changed' offically or revised, reworded, restated, etc, but easily realized or fluently known by the people. Obviously it's not.

Most of you have completely neglected yourself from the real purpose of these Demo Games and turned it into a legal debate. You either prefer to have the purpose languished, or you are side-tracked from it. You pick. Time to wake up people.

I am addressing your points in order:

I agree that this game can be hard to follow if you don't have alot of time.

Is my summary what you are looking for?

Yes, the next turn chat when you posted was at 02:00 GMT. But half of the chats this term are at 20:00 GMT. I hope you can make some of them. See the schedule for the exact dates and times.

As an explanation, RMT is a running joke from last DG. It stands for Rik Meleet Time. By a strange coincidence, we have a citizen named Rik Meleet. Hmmmmmmm

I'm not exactly how, or when it started. I think it was during my term as President as Rik was my VP and helped out on many of the turn chats.
