Where are the saved games in Windows 10.
Tried a search for *.sav, and just like windows 7 , it is not listed, but there is not "compatibility file" folder.
Thanks

Where they are depends on the version (steam or not) and how a non steam version is installed. Steam uses Steamapps common then the normal path. Sid... Conquest Saves. The files are named *.sav. In a straight windows install they like to put the files under the users directory iirc. Make sure you are doing the search at the root C: or whatever drives you have.

When using Win 10 and Civ III Complete ((normal installation or similar in GoG installation) your saves normally are in the folder C:\Users\Username\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files (x86)\Firaxis Games\Civilization III Complete\Conquests\Saves

To know this can be important if you want to delete some or all of your save-files to gain moore room on your harddrive again. For that procedure I made a link to the VirtualStore of my pc. I cannot say anything about the bad, text-bugged, Steam version of Civ III Complete, as I don´t have that trash on my pc.

Thanks for the answers, but I suppose the original problem was not stated clearly.
I loaded the game from a CD. Sold out software.

I can go to the and I get to "FILE EXPLORER" and find "\Program Files (x86)\Firaxis Games\Civilization III Complete\Conquests" BUT the "saves" file is not listed.

Art
Conquests
redist
Scenarios
Text
Civ.3opt
binkw32.dll
and a whole lot more, but no saves file. How do I get it to show?

Just for fun, or desperation, I loaded the shortcuts going directly to the Saves file from my old laptop, and the shortcut still works. But I would still like to know how to make the saves file visible. Just in case I lose the short cut or something else happens.

Thanks

Garvarg, your search path is wrong if you have the normal C3C installation (and not an installation as Lanzelot suggested it in his post above). You are searching for the normal installation - but here you will not find the saves and other C3C files that you have replaced by modding. These files are sitting in the VirtualStore and are overwriting (or in the case of the save files are adding) the normal C3C files.

As I said, you have to search for the VirtualStore of your pc and inside that virtual store you have to look for the structures as I posted them. Your search was for the normal files. The VirtualStore is mirroring structures of your normal files and overwrites those files.

I did not make it clear, but I said that yo have to go to the root to be sure to find them on a search. If you have more than one HD, pick the one that has your User folder. Clear it down to the C:\ or what ever drive. Enter *.sav on the search bar and it will find it. It works for me.

If you installed from CD and selected adm for the exe then run the game without adm, it puts them in your User folder. If you run the game as adm, it will put them in the Program file x86 save fold under Civ. The game cannot write to x86 without adm auth.

just a quick tip if you find it. create a shortcut for your desktop. I always have it there so I can get to it easily and delete or check saves.
