Where are the unprotected saves?

I tried downloading some old 1.61 games, but they won't load in the 1.74 version of the HOF Mod.

How do I get the unprotected version?

Well, it is sort of unprotected. It loads the current mod but then you get the error. Not really sure why yet...

I too have never been able to look up old saves since the last version update.

version 1.61 -> 1.74 might be the problem?
