Where is Poland and the second leader?

I honestly don't get Poland as a launch civ. If we're going to add more Euro civs, I'd much rather add actual world power players like the Dutch and Portugal. Even if we want another civ around Eastern Europe, there are much better options like Turkey or Austria. Not to mention the numerous world civs (including Persia, Mongolia, and Inca) that would make seemingly necessary additions while diversifying the roster.

So if you like the Netherlands or Austria (another country German) why not Poland in the early Middle Ages fought battles with the German Empire as an equal. From the 15th century to the end of the reign of Sobieski is one of the major powers of Europe who often had to simultaneously fight with Russia, Sweden and Turkey. A policy of equal Habsburg dynastic ruler of the dynasty ruled Jagielon simultaneously in Poland, Lithuania, the Czech and Hungary.

In the field of culture is the first constitution in Europe for the constitution of Poland paid a partition by 3 power ruled by absolute monarchs. And a unique system of government based on the total number of Polish Parliament of Nobles.

There is a lack of Turkey, Persia, Inca, Mongolia, Portugal, but Poland lacks nothing to Austria or Holland as civilization.

In the games Paradox is always a great power but a creator of European and know well the history of this continent.

I'm not usually one who suffers from OCD, but this whole 19 Civs thing is driving me NUTS!!!! At least 20 is a nice, round number :p.

Nope, that doesn't cut it from my OCD point of view :p.

I love Poland and can't wait to have them in the game but the Dutch did have a colonial trade empire which is something Poland never had. Their global presence is only matched by a handful of other countries for the time period.

It looks like this time we'll get Poland before the Dutch or Austrians though so not to worry! Hopefully this means Poland will actually be able to have its white eagle this time... I mean Austria has a black eagle anyway

I think you might be selling Poland a little short here. Poland in 16th and 17th century Europe was a very big deal and of the great sort of "eastern powers" there was no reason to think that it wouldn't be Poland that would be ascendant. This is to say nothing of the role that Polish intellectuals play in the popular "liberty" movements of the late 18th century. In my mind Portugal is a far more questionable player. Portugal's importance is well represented by their successor states while Poland was a much bigger "mover" on its own. That all being said I'd rather see the Dutch before either of them. Not because of political power (though the Dutch did have a short time in the sun in that regard) because of their huge impact on the development of much of what we consider part of modernity, particularly of modern economies and ideas of civil participation and duties in government.

Colonial Trade empire is whoop de do... already have the English(Dutch+) and Spanish(Portugal+) for that

There are definitely more interesting civs before more 'age of discovery trade outpost ploppers' (although admittedly not many in Europe... Austria is basically Germany (especially with Fredrick))

Well written.

It is a pity that the joke did Firaxis Austrian Habsburg giving her Polish emblem and Poland changing its flag in the game on Albanian emblem understand main people living in this part of Europe. :D

Knowledge of the historical realities Swedes of Paradox beat Firaxis head.

I didn't see anything in a release about Poland or second leader being on launch day so why would they show it? No one knows what going to be released till it does so there's no getting your panties in a bunch over nothing. Unless you have access to day one build of the game.

'age of discovery trade outpost ploppers'
Ah yes, trade outposts like New York City and Rio de Janeiro

I knew I would get flack for questioning Poland as a base game civ. I love them as an expansion civ, and I'm glad they made the game. Poland was a regional power in the medieval era, but fell off pretty hard in the 17th century and spent the next 300 years getting bullied by its neighbors.

Let's not underrate the Portuguese or Dutch. The Portuguese led the age of discovery, taking over swaths of South America and Africa and becoming the first European country to tangle in Indian Ocean trade. The Dutch came later, but were far more successful, turning Amsterdam into the financial center of the world as they successfully dominated global trade and challenged England, at one point sailing up the Thames and towing away the flagship of the English fleet. Not bad at all.

The Poles have impressive victories also, including their pivotal role in the Siege of Vienna. But I think it's hard to argue that Poland had a larger impact on the world or Portugal or the Dutch. Austria's also worth bringing up again – an east European power that dominated European politics for centuries. From Maximilian to Metternich, it's hard to argue any other country had such influence over European affairs from the 16th through 19th centuries. They'd make a wonderful addition to a diplomacy-focused expansion. :D

If I could add civs to the base game, though, I wouldn't pick any of these. Instead, I'd add Persia, Mongolia, and the Inca. I think we'll see all three of these soon enough, and I even kinda suspect Firaxis is withholding them for early DLC.

My guess would be that Poland had a lot more civ players than those countries. I wouldn't be surprised if that's a factor.

Canada has the third most Civ players in the world, and yet, there has never been a Canadian civ outside of mods in the entire history of the Civ franchise. Yes, Toronto being a CS does not mean that Canada would never become a civ in Civ VI.

I do like to see Poland in the game.

If I recall correctly, Poland was frequently at the top of desired civ polls before they came along in BNW. So, we can see that it is popular with the fanbase. And since Firaxis sets the bar low for requirements, all they really need is a cohesive identity and a way to tie a fun mechanic to them, here's Poland again.

A little strays from the subject was asked about Gorgo and Poland because they were accidentally shown picture Firaxis.

Gorgo is found on some of the Chinese side.

Poland had disappeared somewhere but as noted by one member of the forum among Cs is not Warsaw or Perspolis or Istanbul / Ankara or unless the Mongolian cities.

So you can put forward a proposal that it will be the first wave of the DLC.

I guess I'll have to change the topic: What of Civilization would like to see next. :)

Poland also wasn't in Barbarossa leak and doesn't fit the numbers (unlike Gorgo). This means Poland is pretty sure is a DLC.
