Where is Spanish Empire?

I am not totally sure about that. If you visit the official web, you can choose the option SPAIN in the right side of the screen, and you will see an Spanish flag, with the Spanish official shield (So, it is not refered to the South American comunity (As you could argue)). I don't think that people from Mexico or Argentina feel represented by that flag. I mean that they really mind Spanish market, and that is the reason why I don't understand their decision.

That's not an unfair point. The marketing people behind the website clearly target Spain as a market to sell the product. The listing of countries is peculiar as such, with the country names and flags. Also mentioning "USA" instead of English is targeting away from the UK, Australia, Canada, etc and all international users who don't speak Spanish, French or German.
It may seem "in theme" for civ 5 to talk about civs instead of languages, but it'd odd for everybody not in those five listed countries.

I have talked about Spain, because it is my country, but the absence of Mongolia (and also Portugal) is equally disconcerting.

Civilization is not a ranking of the 18 most important civilizations. It is not a ranking of which 18 civilizations are most awesome. It is nothing personal towards any civilization included or excluded.

To come and declare that Spain must be included in any game called Civilization because of its proud history... well, I don't understand it. Believe me, I'd just assume exclude The United States from Civilization. And I'm an American :).

I appreciate that you'd like to be able to play as Spain in this game. But I hope you appreciate my response: That posts declaring the exclusion of another Civilization, no matter how wonderful it's culture or how powerful its nationalistic heritage, are not necessary on this forum.

I'd have to agree with Nic on this, and I'm a yank as well. Preferably, I'd like to see a few native American tribes instead of USA. Not gonna happen of course, but i'd still like to see it.

Besides, 2k has to have something to charge extra money for. Either via expansion pack or DLC.

Well the modders can always replace the ottomans with Spain. I know i will help there! :mischief:

Can they ? We dont know if that sort of modding will be allowed. It sorta defeats the purpose of selling Spain for $5.99 DLC if someone can just add it to the game for free.

A. Thats the Spanish an Portuguese empires, B. Thats all of the Spanish colonies over time, but the Spanish empire was not that big at it's maximum extent.

Where is Spanish empire? You mean you LOST IT!!?? How do you misplace an entire country!?

It would be suicidal for civ5 if it somehow didnt allow a civ to be modded in.
Of course if Spain gets sold as deluxe content (i doubt it, it will be in some regular expansion) then you cannot use those particular gfx for Spain, but you can always make your own gfx for it :)

I highly doubt that modding in countries from DLC will be banned. After all, mods adding, say, Zulu, Vikings, or Portugal weren't taken down after Warlords and BtS came out, were they?

might be easier now with forced steam

Which is a horrendous decision by whoever designed the website. It should clearly state the name of the language you're choosing, and not some random nation speaking that specific language. I didn't realise that the "USA" in the top right corner meant that I was viewing the english version until I tried choosing one of the others and suddenly the language changed.

The web site should be changed. Not the chosen civilizations for the game. I see nothing game breaking about the list of civilizations chosen.

If your truely outraged that they didnt put in Spain you can show your displeasure by not buying the game and putting money into the pockets of the people that disrespected your country

Using the US flag on a webpage to indicate the page is being viewed in English is pretty common and most of the English-speaking world are used to it now. It's really not a big deal, just like when selecting the language to install software you often have to select "US (English)".

personally i think the byzantine empire was the one most influential empires in europe's history but it isn't included(most people dont know about the byzantines since they're orthodox christains the western europeans tried to phase them out of history). Sometimes stuff isn't included and you have to wait for expansions. Besides expansions have other features than more civs.

Welcome to civfanatics EmperorValacar! [party]
You're spot on that expansions usually have other features than just more civs, especially game-changing features.

woo yay first(now second post)

Before i go to bed these are my thoughts about Civ5,i've played since Civ3(not that far back i suppose).Personally i'm not sure what to think of Civ5,alot of stuff is changing hopefully it'll work out, although my main goal is hoping that fall from heaven either goes with Civ5 or their stand of alone game is succesful(my favorite Civ mod although i'm suprised no one did a LoTR Civ4 mod(that i could find)).

I'm sure they'll be in an expansion. So take a chill pill. If there would be some sort of ranking system every civ game would feature the same nations, and I'm not so sure that would be a good thing. A little variety is always welcome.

IMO . I think I would pretty sad if I know Persia & Inca in. Because I proud in my nation, As well as you. You think life is unfair 'cause Spain doesn't in.
Straightforwardly, I think Spain, which long-lived in Civ serie, are not only didn't in. But Firaxis didn't consider Spain as first 18 at all!

They probably did consider it at length. But the other Euro nations won out in the end because they remained involved in the world after the collapse of their empires and Spain did not.
