Midnight tonight? I may decide to work from home tomorrow...

Am I right in thinking activation comes before installation when you have a DVD version? I've never pre-ordered a game before.

Thank you very much. The times in the list from Rio de Janairo to Sydney, are these local times or UTC too?
edit: sorry i got it: its UTC 0 o clock in the rest of the world, the times in the list are local.

3 in the morning for me... Darn, I may work a very short day tomorrow and run back home as quickly as I can. Thank the spirits it is the weekend!

Let me tell you, my wife is NOT looking forward to her "Civ widowhood" :D

Am I right in thinking activation comes before installation when you have a DVD version? I've never pre-ordered a game before.

I've bought DVD games before that needed steam to activate. What happens is that during the installation you're invited to install steam if you do not yet have it installed, and it will ask you to login to your Steam Account, then follow some instructions to enter your activation key found on the back of booklet that came with the DVD.

So to speed things up you can install Steam before hand, and have an account created.

My DVD copy arrived this morning (I'm in England), so I can install it now then wait for activation at midnight (uk time). (actually I think I'll delay the install until an hour before midnight in case it requires me to remove the demo version)

To make things confusing Steam has a countdown. This indicates the game will unlock at Midnight in the UK, not the 1am give by 00:00 UTC time.

It 17:06 as I type this and the steam countdown has just gone down to 7hrs until unlocking.

I came to the same conclusion. It seems that the game will come one hour earlier (at least, earlier than i thought).
But it is possible, that the countdown is rounding down, so that 3 hours and 59 minutes are displayed at: "around 3 hours"
