I'm going to go to my favorite used/new pc game shop tomorrow, and wanted to pick up civ2 while I'm there. I have civ3, but wanted to check out its "roots". :)

I see various civ games though. A few different civ 2s, a call to power. What should I pick up?

I've Civ2 Test of Time and XP Home (with SP1) and it works fine !
don't even have to check "Win 98" compatibility !

I just bought TOT today. Never tried it before. It looks like it has some of the features I hoped civ3 and PTW would have. (But I bought PTW anyway).

I am assuming it will work with Win2000.

Did TOT come out after SMAC?

So if ToT is number 1, what about ToT2? Is it better again?

@KaesarSosei: As said in your thread, TOT2 doesn't exist.

@Grohth: Get MGE (Multiplayer Gold Edition) if possible. Stay away from TOT and definately from CTP. Any other versions can be converted to MGE if needed, IIRC (if I recall correctly).

@sumthinelse: TOT is a completely different game to Civ 3 & PTW.

The two most widely available copies on store shelves are "Classic" 2.42 jewel case and ToT. My recommendation would be ToT, though I dislike the graphics, it does include multiplayer from the getgo. Also it would be the only version that, with my patches, can give you a copy of all the different versions of Civ2.

Which is what I ended up doing, although I can only play TOT on another computer now...

Won't let you play ToT on the first computer Dell? That's kinda strange
