Which civs you DONT like the most

To play as:
Rome - I just can't get a handle on them. Their traits really aren't very complimentary.

Actually, I start thinking, reading from many answers here, that the Commercial trait is underestimated or not well understood. Commercial trait is not meant to make money, but to build up Empires. It fits very well with Militaristic because with this combo you can choose a military government and conquer a lot of land without suffering too much corruption. It's quite a combo and it fits perfectly Romans IMO.

On top of that, England and Portugal not only have a bad UU, but even crappy trait combos

I hate to repeat me, but England prolly has one of the very best trait combos, objectively spoken. See posts #15 and 16 in this thread.

Portuguese, now that's a different story...

I'm probably less likely to face against any CIV AIs with Agricultural trait especially the Sumerians and Incans, because they might have better chance in expanding rapidly even on Pangea maps and usually build a lot of cultural buildings thus my newly build cities will defect to them.

theres something about the Zulu i cannot stand, i dont seem to have problems with them eclipsing me in research though when i decide its time for Shaka to feel my steel i enjoy his habit of many many units hidden in shaded areas of his map, though maybe im not familiar with this fact, it seems zulu are the only race i come across that stack huge amounts od units even if there territory is stuck to a small island. I do enjoy playing as the Japanese or Koreans, and defeating the game with Persia seems easy enough always.

Sorry, but I was speaking of England's traits in Vanilla, as I was saying that I don't like commercial/seafaring with Expansionist.

I don't know why, but i NEVER play w/ the koreans... I guess that is their UU or weak Atributes.

Another civ that i don't like is the hitittes... They are really boring :p

I generally play with a random civ, and random opponents, unless I am inspired by something I read or saw (my current game I am playing the Egyptians because I am reading a book on the Ptolemy's [I know they are Macedonians who had conquered Egypt]).

So I am still yet to play with some Civs (like the Koreans).

My least favourite so far, to play, has been the Portuguese. I forgot to kick off my GA with their UU. That will always be a problem for me, as I tend to ignore building ships except to transport (and if necessary, to defend the transport).

My least favourite civ to play against would be the Mayans. They can overrun the second continent, and then be a bugger to conquer.

I play random everything and really enjoy playing a lot of different stuff. I haven't played enough to say whom I don't like to play.

Against? Avoid the Sumerians! Yikes! They expand like crazy, go up 74 techs on you, and if you beat them up all of their cities defect back becasue their culture is through the roof.

Breunor

Yeah Gilga is one tough nut to crack, I usually never keep the Sumers cities because they always do have lots of culture, I usually just burn their cities.

my first year of civ3, i loved the Exp trait: sending Scouts to grab several free Techs (and hopefully a free Settler!) was a nice beginning. And the Industrious workers building everything twice as fast = excellent. So it's funny to read the posts here bashing the Americans.

Like most people I've never found much fun playing the Americans, largely due to their useless UU. However, I think it's a bit unfair for people to complain about them not sitting comfortably with the other civilizations. Yes, it does seem a bit odd to have Abe Linclon about in 4000BC but isn't it equally odd to have the Babyloians building a space ship? I think America has earnt the right to be included, espeically is you look at it's record post WW2 culminating in it's role now as the only true global superpower. And no, I'm not American and no, I don't agree with US foreign policy but then again I'd probably have something to say about Roman foreign policy too.

On the flip side I too hate the playing against the Hitties and the Celts. The former just always seem very aggressive for my play style and always have good units, especially later in the game. The 2 movement of the latter's UU has always been a thorn in the side for me. The Zulus, however, have alwys just been fun to beat up. Yes, they're agressive but I've never seemed to have any problem dealing with them.

As far as opponents, I hate the Aztecs. Such a nuisance. The Arabs are also very annoying--they always declare war on me early, no matter where they are and the speed of the Ansar Warriors makes them very frustrating until you get cavalry. I find most of the other hyper-aggressive cultures (Japanese, Germans) seem to get themselves into messes. Persia, Babylon and Sumeria tend to be pretty tough opponents.

To play--I generally don't care much for expansionist and militaristic civs, but I am currently playing a variant with the Zulu and am appreciating the power of Horsemen/Impi stacks.

To play with: I stick with random everything and the game seems to like sticking me with the English. I usually run into problems with these games so definitely the English. I see some people like them so I assume my strategy just doesn't fit with them. I just can't get past that almost pointless UU.

To play against: Germans / Mongols / any other extremely aggressive civs. I don't mind the constant attacks, just having to pay in-full and upfront for everything since they won't take gpt. Bonus points for starting a game surrounded by civs that get UU's right off the bat and rush me with their cheaper, superior units. That's always fun and interrupts my settler waves.

I don't like Arabia or Zulu; right now they are at each other’s neck...I might have to intervene because the Zulus have rubber.

Anyway I generally hate the Mongols, Sumeria, Persia and ottomans..ect

I have recently started to like the American civ

Some time ago I had decided to give a try to all Civs on Tiny maps (Monarch level). The result was as I expected: my favourite Civ are Celts (the fastest win: domination in 320 AD). Traits that suit my style of play the best (I like to expand quickly and I love these cheap temples) plus an excellent UU. However, I had surprisingly good results with previously the least favourite civs: Zulu and Mongols. On the other hand, I had the worst results with Hittites, French (I don't like their trait combo) and Byzantines (perhaps because of poor start).

Least favourite Civs to play against: Agricultural ones if I am not Agricultural (I remember my game when I played as Americans against Maya, Aztecs and Iroquois - it was the only of the games mentioned above I have abandoned) and Civs that are most likely to attack early, especially Germans.

Best regards,

Slawomir Stachniewicz.
