The default setting might be 2, but to me, if the volcanos can't burn stuff two tiles away, it doesn't make sense, so I'm currently using 3, but I'm still not sure whether it is the best choice.. What are you using?

I found 2 to be a bit boring, so I'm also on 3.

I play on 4. I like the increased frequency even though disasters always seem to hit at the worst possible time.

Drought is a major pain too.

I haven't ever gone under 4 and doubt I will. The disasters are really not that hard to manage, and repair times seen to have been substantially reduced in GS.

What has been more difficult to overcome is having 2 games where my capital has been sacked relatively early on by the AI.

Three. I hardly even notice 2. The only thing is that Global Warming seems to happen alarmingly fast at the end of the game on 3.

I'm on 4, but honestly feel like the disasters are not frequent enough. And I don't have any coastal cities so global warming has pretty much zero effect on me.

I've always played on 2 and I find that the number of disasters and their intensity varies greatly from game to game. In my Canada game I had volcanoes exploding left and right, snowstorm, droughts and floods constantly pestering me. While in my Phoenicia game I experienced only a single flooding and perhaps one or two droughts.

I'm on 3. I haven't thought so much about the difference in severity or frequency, but I want volcanoes to reach 2 tiles out.

I have yet to see Vesuvius in a game, that is really disappointing. I have a problem with NWs in general, I feel like I'm seeing a few in almost every game, while some are so rare.

I've seen Vesuvius, but not had it close by. Its tile yields eventually become pretty impressive.

Played my first GS on total standard and therefore 2 but as some here already mentioned; volcanoes being more unpredictable with reaching up to 2 tiles makes perfect sense to me so I'm gonna get the level up...

4 in both my games, seems about right to me.

I've never seen Vesuvius but I've had Kilimanjaro in almost every game, and several times within my city borders. Delicious yields!
Yeah, I've had Kilimanjaro in both my games, one of them I had three cities around it taking advantage of really juicy yields.

I'm looking forward to the terra miribellis mod being updated to increase the chance it keeps showing up in future games.

I'm with you on this. Does anyone know if the level 4 also increase the likelihood of sea level flooding?

I was going to make a poll on this yesterday, but forgot. Adding a poll at the top may be helpful.

I admit I have yet to move up from 2. I actually get kind of annoyed with storms messing up all my improvements even at level 2. I get my empire all nice and set up just how I like it, and blam, it's all messed up again. Even worse the interface is very inconsistent about which tiles are damaged, and doesn't even tell you which tiles lost their improvements. And I often can't remember what I had there. Like in my current Canada, I have to try to remember which tiles I had my hockey rinks in.

Maybe one of these days I'll try 4, but for now 2 is about where I want it. For those saying there aren't enough disasters you aren't playing my games. Having 8 tiles wiped out from one dust storm is ridiculous. Dust storms are not that destructive. I know the mojave desert is not like all deserts, but when is the last time you saw the Las Vegas strip wiped out from a dust storm? Dust storms are the absolute worst in this game. Though in my Canada game I'm noticing blizzards are pretty rough as well. I would tone both of those down. Floods and volcanos I think are just about right.

I've tried 2, 3 and 4 in different games but 3 seems the most fun to me

On 2 it happens so infrequently it gets a bit irrelevant. On 4 they can be pretty overwhelming in the early game and it feels like you're spending half of your builder charges just rebuilding removed improvements all the time, which gets a bit annoying (but then in the lategame it's obviously no problem whatsoever). 3 seems the most balanced to me in terms of unpredictability and fun factor

On and cities near volcanoes are completely overpowered if you play on 4. You can get like 10+ food tiles on the constantly improving volcanic soil and it can be all over the map. Not very balanced lol

Marginally off-topic but I settled near Sahara El Baydar in my last game--does that wonder generate more disaster than the average desert tiles? It seemed like one came through every 10 turns or so, annoying but the one desert hill just north of it (with Petra, granted) was up to 10 production mined. I had a handful of 6-8 production tiles and a few 9 food floodplains tiles.
