Which free techs do you choose for Oracle/Liberalism?

I got Civil Service with the Oracle recently and it was awesome, but i'm more likely to go for Metal Casing.

Liberalism I usually go for either printing press or replacable parts, trying to tech towards Rifiling.

... most expensive tech..

Otherwise, Code of Laws and Nationalism for Taj Mahal

CS is hard to come by now..

At emperor:

Oracle - code of laws if my empire is already big enough. If not, theology, so I can switch to theocracy and make it grows at war.

Liberalism - Astronomy, democracy or steel if I'm very advanced.

I usually play noble .
for Oracle - theology or metal casting
for Liberalism is a little bit tricky for me. In most game I will get democracy (for the most demanding point) and I will get the nationalism + build TM , get ecomony on the way (and save great merchant for Sushi Co) . So when golden age , I can revolution to free speech , free market etc. without anachy. I usually play well enough to get far behind enemy for these tech.

Many times when I snag the Oracle I take monarchy just to force me to build more units. I get the army I am looking for or at least to prevent ai's from too much time on our hands and my city sizes increase dramatically. However, this is when I play as the Summerians.

With all other civs I take COL.

I waffle with Liberalism. Sometimes nationalism, sometimes printing press....both are great techs

Oracle- CoL or Metal Casting
Liberalism - preferably democracy, but usually astronomy

Depends on when I get it, but usually COL or Metal Casting. But there's a chance I'm gonna get it later and in that case it could be civil service or Machinery or something. I usually play Monarch.

If it's really early I'll take metal casting cause I want those forges. Or maybe COL if I'm conquering someone and need it.

Liberalism I don't get enough to make a solid choice.

Oracle -> Metal Casting
Liberalism -> Nationalism

Oracle -> CoL or Metal Casting
Liberalism -> Usually Gunpowder or Astronomy

Oracle: Metal Casting. This is on Noble level, so I have time to research Code of Laws.

Liberalism: Whichever tech takes the longest to research.

It depends on difficulty level.

Lately I have been playing on Diety...I don't get either one of the free techs.

On lower levels I like to take Feudalism with the Oracle. I'm not too picky with Liberalism...I will take the best available tech when I get it.

I never build the Oracle, but I usually get Liberalism first. My high cost options are Nationalism and Printing Press. Nationalism is a little more expensive, but Printing Press gives me more immediate benefits by pumping up my village/town income. What do you choose for either free tech?

Oracle;

CoL, Metal Casting, occasionally Feudalism if I needed Monarchy early.

Liberalism;

Democracy if I can get it with minimal risk, something along the path to steel, or Astronomy if Liberalism was more beelined than normal.

Code of Laws with the Oracle. Depending on situation I'll occasionally take Metal Casting, but I go for Theology with my second Great Prophet, for the Apostolic Palace. (I am a religion whore; at the level I play on it is possible to get most if not all religions - because someone usually beats me to Buddhism and Wang Kon likes to bulb Philosophy, but still - the revenue from shrines helps enormously in balancing my budgets!) If I'm Sumeria and have early Ziggurats instead of Courthouses, and when I'm the Zulus and have access to the Ikhanda earlier still, then I might well go for Metal Casting because I won't need Courthouses/Rathauses so much.

Almost missed it this evening by delaying Writing and building the Oracle earlier than usual because Paris was a good starting point and Orleans an even better production facility, so I had SH and GW early too. It was a race to see which would be completed first, Writing or the Oracle. Luckily Writing won by about one turn, so perhaps I would have been better off taking Metal Casting at that point, but oh well...there you go.

With Liberalism, it varies (depending on when I go for it - and I usually get it because I accelerate away quite nicely in technology after the early stages of the game); sometimes Replaceable Parts, sometimes Nationalism, sometimes Military Tradition. When it comes along I'm usually embroiled in perpetual warfare, so unless I need the revenue from something like Economics or Printing Press, I will go for those kind of military technologies.

With Liberalism I often get Astronomy because it's expensive and I want to build up my long distance trade network. I'm curious, what's so good about Nationalism?

First: It's one of the more expensive techs you can get from liberalism.

Second: It's a prerequisite for tech that enables emancipation, (democratie IRCC) if you have a tech lead and switch to emancipation the AI will have a :mad: penalty.

Third: You can build the TM wonder. I admit, it's arguably not a very good wonder but the golden age may let switch to emancipation and representation without anarchy.
