I'm not sure if this poll has been done before, but I didn't see one, so I'll just post a new one.

I don't play Civ4 anymore because I got bored with it, playing on a regular basis since release. (6 years)
I don't play Civ5 anymore because I got bored with it, playing on a regular basis since release (2 months)

Just checking forums once in a while to catch up on news and stuff. I still believe in Civ :)

I reckon 99%+ also still do believe in Civ - people should not take a simplistic view and count opposition to this release as some kind of permanent life long stain on its character. Whether Civ V is fixable remains to be seen, so far its has ignored the very core foundations of the Franchise to such an extent, its possible its not fixable, and a complete rewrite is needed aka Civ 6 or a Major expansion pack thats in effect Civ 6 by another name.

The next few weeks/months will be critical to the Franchise - they better get it right second time round, else the Franchise will die. This mess is way beyond the usual "first release hassles" beloved of the gaming world these days, and more akin to stomping on idiotic development choices that ran over the very core foundations of the Franchise due to developers personal preferences, not considered market analysis.

Civ IV.

If we're talking release versions, no expansions, no patches or bugfixes?
Civ5 for now.

Civ2 for its time.

After patches, mods and expansions?
Civ4 by far.

Civ4
MOO2
Civ2

Civ4 - added graphics, and alot of variety that made that game excellent. Promotions, Espionage, Religion, etc.
MOO2 - added customizable races. I could decide from the beginning, what specifically, My new Empire would be best at.
Civ2 - I created my first units here, literally. I felt an "Archer guard tower" was missing, so, I added it. I felt "Arrows" similar to the cruise missle style could have been added, so, I did. Great flexibility for its time.

I voted 4. I love 5, but I still love 4 more...

I played the original Civ without an internet connection. I assume it had to be unpatched, yet not buggy by my recollection. It wins the out of the box vanilla poll.

Maybe when Civ V is completed, I can make another evaluation.

No original version of civilization has been enough for me because I still fail to see how Some units are even capable of destroying a unit. Like a Battleship Vs. A Destroyer. A Battleship deserves way more than 25% increased damage advantage over a Destroyer. A way higher bombard rating and so on. So no "original" version of civilization is ever good enough for me but how I measure a game is based on it's capability of units and warfare, how easy it is to modify so I can change the gameplay from the "gamer balanced" into a more of a combat simulator. By studying information based on the game's capabilities and coupling it with innovation to create my own game. So from that I rule that civilization 3 to me is the best so far. As I couldn't really figure out the world builder for civilization 4- I gave up on that game and rule it as a game I honestly dislike. Sure some aspects were awesome but the limitation of having different units that are effective for combat and their cost was surely a loss I missed from playing civilization 3.

I have yet to look at civ5 but the unit stacking is something I worry about because how else am I going to have a fleet? Is there Armies like in Civ3? Do they have the fleet capability? Maybe even an Air fleet formation option of some sort? So many things I don't know but the hexagonal squares is really awesome- if only I could modify civ3 to work with hexagon squares. Otherwise i'll just have to wait and see how the civ5 world builder turns out to be.

I voted Civ 5....I know i know but i am somewhat an optimist. Besides, the more I play Civ 5 the more I like it. Once you survive the tremendous Shock about the several issues in Civ 5, you actually step upon one or two nice things.

I think! this poll will shift in time, with a dozen patches, half a dozen expansions and a million mods :)!

So according to this poll, Civ 5 is 2nd best (and it has no expansions yet), I always thought 1-3 were bad games now I'm justified.
