Which game release let you down more? Civ 5, or Diablo 3?

(maybe I would be interested in RPGs if RPGs weren't all centered around weird magical spell and dungeon type crap)

I feel the same way, hence why I've become so enamored with the Fallout franchise. My love for ASOIAF probably comes from the same place, though it's slowly snuck a bit of that back in over time.

Personally, I haven't played Civilization V because of all the negativity surrounding it, and no one ever told be about Diablo III: Hellgate London until long after it came out. Diablo IV: Torchlight is excellent, however, and I'm looking forward to Diablo V: Torchlight II. As for Blizzard's latest piece of crap pretending to be a Diablo game, I'm not touching it.

That was a baby/bathwater deal. Players didn't see the forest for the buggy trees, and made out the game to be a dud for correctable issues. I associate the term Flagshipped with the playerbase more than I did with the game and company (rats drowning themselves by all going to the wrong side of the boat). A similar variation for D3 seems to be happening (Toss in obvious cliche #4).

I had no hopes at all for any of the two.

They key to happyness: Low expectations.

Diablo 3 and Civ 5 are both good games.

But when Diablo 2 and Civ 4 were released, there was no Dwarf Fortress and no Minecraft. Compared to them, Diablo 3 and Civ 5 seem relatively dull and uninspiring.

I like D3 on the same level I like Portal: it's not a game you can come back to for years and years but the first few play throughs are amazing.

Civ 5 was simply awful at launch.
