Hi,
Just started considering the possibility of playing a Game Of The Month....but
which one do I choose if I want to play it with the Civ4 Warlords patch at 2.08???

Also is there a way to get automatically notified of when it is available at the start of each month?

Finally...as I'm playing while I'm away at work during the week on a low-spec laptop....what happens if the game parameters cause it to crash and not allow me to complete the game? I've found a happy medium of map size and opponents that allow me to play single player...basically I can't play the biggest map size... how often are these likely to be the type of game? Not often because of the amount of time and effort required to finish them???

What does the mod do that I need to play? Will it affect my single player games???

Thanks
I.

If you wish to play the warlords games, you'll want to play the WOTM(Warlords of the Month).

Warlords games start the 15th of each month, and I know there is an RSS feed, but I don't know anything more than that about auto notification

Generally speaking, the game will be a standard sied map and either on epic or normal speed. This month the GOTM is on a large map, epic speed, while the WOTM is on a standard map, marathon speed, but that is because we get 6 weeks rather than the usual 4 to finish in. Thus far, I think these are the only two games that don't fit the standard map, normal/epic speed mold.

As for the mod, it is the HOF mod, which many others know more about, all I can really say is if you elect to use it in your non-GOTM games, it will provide you with almost more information, easily, than you know what to do with :) I use it for all my games now and can barely use the normal advisors because of how hard it is to find useful information with them.

also, welcome to the GOTM ;)

The WOTMs are released as regular as clockwork on 15th of each month, though, so you could set an alarm on your own calendar to let you know when to come looking.

RSS does give notifications of new game releases, though you'll get notifications of lots of other posts as well unless you can filter them. The URL is http://forums.civfanatics.com/external.php?forumids=165&type=rss2.

If you don't want to use the HoF Mod for regular games then just don't. As long as it's installed, double clicking the WOTM file will cause the Mod to load. Other games that you start yourself will not use it unless it's loaded at the time you start the game. But, as Thrallia says, it's a very useful set of enhanced Advisers, as well as providing extra logging and in-game event alerts.
