For historical appeal, Zulus aren't very well off. People tend to remember them for one thing only - their war with the British Empire.

As for their gameplay, Zulus seem a bit boring for those of us who don't like warmongering that much. I find their UA even more boring anyway because it does little to differentiate them from other military civs in terms of strategy - they can field a larger army for the same cost and get some extra XP, but I would've preferred something less generic. I agree they'll probably be the civ that's very fun to play against, though.

Assyria and Indonesia are two civs I am excited to get because I have felt for a long time they were conspicuous in their absence. Not being much of a warmonger, I can't see myself actually playing as Assyria very often, but I am quite pleased to finally have them in.

Brazil and the Shoshone I am also very excited about because of the precedent they set. Thus far, the New World has, at best, consisted of: The Big Three pre-Columbian Civilizations (Aztec - Maya - Inca), America, token Native American civ. That we're finally getting a second (non-Big Three) Native American civ, and a second post-colonial nation as well, is very encouraging.

Despite the high levels of snark about the Zulu, I will continue to defend their inclusion. I didn't want them back because I thought they'd be given an intriguing play-style that would make them my favorite civ ever. I wanted them back because I've been playing the Civ series since it only had one game, and it doesn't fully feel like Civ to me without Shaka. That I'm not voting for them in the poll as my "favorite new civ" is no reflection on how much I wanted them back or how pleased I am that they finally are back.

Portugal needed to come back*, but I find myself unable to muster any excitement about Poland or Venice. It's not that I don't think they're deserving, but the ratio of European civs to any other group is bad enough as it is. I do want Poland and Venice in, but I want other cultures in more. I would have been more than happy to trade Poland and Venice for the Khmer and an additional Native (North or South) American civ. Morocco leaves me underwhelmed as well for the same reason. I won't complain about getting a new African civ. But the fact that the new African civ is also a Middle Eastern civ with ties to Europe does make the continued ignoring of civs like the Benin, Ashanti, Great Zimbabwe, and (except for a City-State) Kongo all the more blatant to me. I'd have liked to have seen one of them added, not instead of Morocco, but at least ahead of or even alongside Morocco.

*ETA: Though I find the implementation a bit odd. I understand that Trade Routes are one of the big new mechanics, but did we need two European naval trading civs in one expansion? It's a shame they feel so obligated to make new civs tie in to new mechanics so strongly, because I think Portugal should have had an exploration focus rather than explicitly a trading one. And it should have had a different leader. My face still hurts from the epic palming it received when they revealed Maria the Token Chick.

I picked Poland for its UA that gives you a free social policy when you advance into each new era.
(That's like what, 10 free social policies overall? Nice touch, would be even more powerful if you could still win by building the Utopia Project...) Quite powerful cavalry UU (Hussar) and a horse-based UB (Ducal Stables) giving extra XP to your cavalry units and 1 extra gold from each Pasture (together with the standard +1 production bonus). One word comes to my mind; "trample". :)

Indonesia also seems quite interesting, in its own sense, and they would be my second choice :)

Exploration+Conquer= Spain.
Trade+Commerce=Portugal

Interesting results so far. Venice with a clear lead, which I can understand, as they do look very fun to play as. I seem to have voted for Portugal some while back, which I'll stick with - the feitoria still intrigues me. Surely the Shoshone are being flattered by the late and so far partial announcement, though. Yes the Pathfinder is an interesting UU, but we have little on the Comanche raider and the UA is, shall we say, uninspired. Morocco, I think will be fun - UIs tend to make things more interesting. Poland are the solid, but fairly generic option. Assyria and Indonesia I see the attractions of as well. I'm surprised at just how unpopular the Zulu are - I would have thought there would be at least some takers for the war machine civ. And then there is Brazil - love the leaderscreen, as for the rest, underwhelming. I think they will be like the Celts, looks good on paper, less interesting to actually play with, though clearly a powerful culture player.

1-Brazil:My favorite civ, South America needed to be represented by a modern civ. I still hope to see the Great Colombia and Argentina in the future.

Exactly the SAME REASON Brazil is also my 1st choice, besides the fact of they are leaned to a cultural victory... turism :crazyeye: ... Yeah, baby, let the carnival begin. (I also expect a colombian civilization :( )

Poland will be my second (the :c5gold: and :c5production: bonus for pastures - building their UB, of course, drives me crazy already), and the fact they're a medieval civ.

My third choice would be the Shoshone, their exploration and mounted units, along with their UA is just so great.

The fourth one will be the Moroccan (Yeah, finally a great use of desert tiles without having to build Petra), and I'll love to have another african civ to compete with the arabs...

Then, Portugal, Zulu, they look powerful and fun.

The least that appeal to me are the Venetian... Just buying CS's?? REALLY?? What's the fun of that? What if a CS if far enough so an enemy civ takes it easily?

Boring... :cringe:

I love to expand my empire BUILDING new cities and taking lands (maybe that's why the Shoshone are a great pick to me).

I think my favourite must be Brazil. It looks good.:)
