Pangaea

normally do random in my own games, but I think Pangaea makes things a bit more interesting... for the DG

Continents.

Pangaea

Why? Because Pangaea will give us more contacts early, giving us more to talk about, keeping the game interesting. It also avoids getting stuck on a lousy continent with warmongering neighbours while Mansa, Washington and Gandhi are on another island teching away.

i understand duthfire, but then again, isn't it what is fun about civ 4, the adaptation of the world given to you... if really we are stuck on a continent with warmongering neighbours while Mansa, Washington and Gandhi are on another island teching away, shouldnt we adapt and try to win since this situation is plausible... i mean MUST we win the game by putting every detail safely in front of us, or fight and try to adapt with what world is upon us... i think we are good enough at this game to adapt... anyway, we could also ask the warmongering neighbours to go with us and wage war against the teching civs.

just adding my 2 golds per turn

Actually, Terra is the most Earth-like.
Disagreed. Even if you think it historically represents Earth your wrong. The American Civilizations such as the Mayans, Incans and Aztecs were all non-barbaric empires. They weren't even terribly technologically backwards. Disease and the Europeans playing divide and conquer is what wiped them out.

First off I'm not wrong, it's just that are opinions differ.

Secondly, its not my opinion, but is based off of Sirian's Map Scripts Guide. Under the heading Terra you'll find this:

Simulates Earth: Randomly generated landmasses that roughly simulate Earth's continents!

Recall that Sirian programmed most of Civ4's random map scripts as he states here.

The American Civilizations such as the Mayans, Incans and Aztecs were all non-barbaric empires. They weren't even terribly technologically backwards. Disease and the Europeans playing divide and conquer is what wiped them out.

I'm a little confused at how the above relates to map types.

My point was how does a continents map, that starts everyone off on the same continent and places a bunch of barbs on another continent, make it more of an earth map than continents.

Edit: Sorry if I came off a bit mean.
