Which pieces of DLC would you suggest?

Currently I have the vanilla version, and the mongols expansion. I've seen multiple posts and such about DLC civs and maps, and was wondering which ones you would recommend?

I'm mostly interested in the DLC Playable CIV's, but if the maps are great as well let me know please :)

If you're just interested in civs, I think that Isabella and Pachacuti are the most fun to play and there's a pack for those specific two.

I think there's a GOTY edition that has all of the DLC bundles for a pretty good bargain? I'm not certain if that's still available though.

These are the ones i bought as i was primarily interested in the new civs, not really the scenarios.
GOTY is unfortunately missing Korea i believe,

Korea and Babylon are quite strong and flexible, the rest of the DLC civs are kind of gimmicky, amusing for a single game at least but personally I wouldn't waste the money on any of them.

I had bought them all as well Ex.plode. Then I just bought the Explorer's map pack a few days ago. I bought it really only for the donut map, it was my favorite in Civ 4. I wouldn't recommend it though as Pangea Plus and Continents plus have terrible city state placement (always alone on different islands from the civs). Though if you may like that, it would be worth it maybe.

All the other civs have some unique playstyle's that are worth playing more than once. Plus I enjoy the larger pool of possible AI opponents even if I don't play as one.

It depends:

Babylon and Korea are strong scientific civs, athough Korea does not bring a strong presence as an opposing civ (and Babylon doesn't have any type of scenario). Babylon is however a strong presence as an opposing civ and a terribly overpowered civilization to play as.

Spain and Inca are a must, they bring much needed presence within the game, and both Civs have great original dynamics (although very situational). The purchase of Inca alone makes up for the purchase.

Polynesia and Denmark are relative, neither brings a strong a presence, however they are both powerful exploration and warring Civs (Polynesia specially). To add to this, the Polynesia scenario is probably the best of all.

The Explorers pack
is a good purchase, you probably won't play as any of the civs all the time, but you will probably play these maps most games, specially since all have better scripting than the original game map scripts.

Craddle of Civ is overpriced and downright terrible, avoid like the plague. Same goes with Wonders of the World, you won't even notice it's there.

The only DLC that's outright not worth it is the Cradle of Civilization stuff, as it's horribly overpriced. I'd also say that the Explorer's Map Pack is questionable. The rest I found enjoyable. All the civs introduced so far are interesting to play as, and the scenarios are definitely enjoyable for at least a playthrough or two. I liked Wonders of the Ancient World as well. The scenario is decent and the wonders are pretty decent (assuming you build them before the AI does).

I like the Wonders-DLC; nice to have lots of wonders in early game.
Inca & Polynesia are great civs because they bring unique aspects to the game, so they stimulate you to act differently. And I love Isabella of Spain, she is so sweet.

Another question, if I have some DLC and I try to make a LAN party with my brother who doesn't have DLC, will I still be able to play as a DLC Faction? Or would we both need the same DLC?

Does the DLC work in multiplayer?
It is possible to use the DLC civilizations in multiplayer, but only if all players own these civilizations.
The maps and mappacks cannot be used in multiplayer games.

-> so no :(.

Yeah you can play with your bro just fine, ofcourse you're the only one able to use the DLC civ ofcourse.

edit: guess I was wrong, I thought that was the whole point of having a forced update every time a new DLC came out.

I say get them all, gives flexibility and nice to see them opponents in single games too.

If you can choose only some, I say the Inca+Spain double pack is essential, plus it includes the New World scenario that's absolutely fun to play.

Wonders of the World aren't that bad, the Statue of Zeus is a great wonder, since it gives that bonus against attacking cities, while the Artemis is a good wonder for a growth wonder. However, I would say the Mauseloum is a meh wonder.

It can be pretty decent if you're running a lot of specialists. At least early game you'll get a nice cash bonus. Late game, yeah the 100 gold isn't much, but it can add up. Besides, the AI always seems to take forever to build it, so you don't even need to prioritize it if you want it.

I have all of them, and don't really regret purchasing any of them. That said, I don't really enjoy scenarios, so new Civs are the most value for me.

Of the civs, Denmark, Inca, and Babylon are the ones I've enjoyed playing as the most (in no particular order).

Went out and got Inca+Span and Polynesia, going to get the rest eventually.

Bought them with TF2 items, so not a huge disappointment if they suck :p

Myself, I have

Spain & Inca double pack (mostly for Spain)
Denmark & Explorers pack (The scripts in explorers alone was worth the purchase)

I picked them up during the 67% sell around Thanksgiving.

Since I rarely build early wonders; I have no interest in giving the AI more wonders to build.

I'm not really sure how to play as spain, how effective are the UU's and the Wonder abilitiy, it's kind of confusing.

I don't see the big deal with paying for DLC, as long as it isn't so outrageous
