I would've chosen neither - I don't play scenarios at all, but such option doesn't exist, so chose the closest alike - neither.

I voted for SFA. I think the random map is an interesting mechanic and the US Civil War is very limited in mechanics. I could be completely wrong but it just seems like a game of capture the capital.

I hope Deluxe New World is coming. I've enjoyed scenarios (particularly Renaissance, New World, and Polynesian) and cannot wait for SfA! It does seem odd leaving out the tourism and ideologies from the expansion though. Cold War and WWII are needed so badly! I'd be fine with just European WWII!

As big as a Civil War buff as I am, Scramble for Africa just seems to offer more variables.

Ditto, though I'd have argued for a global scenario that goes beyond the initial WWII conflict and uses the new UN, ideology, and tourism for high victory conditions when the game ends at the year 2000. Basically your 20th c Into The Renaissance

Scramble for Africa, no doubt about it. The geograhpically-narrow and military focus of the ACW does not interest me much.

There are only two new scenarios. Your thread title should be "Which scenario are you MORE excited about?".

American Civil War.

However, the first thing I'm doing is making a simple mod where the CSA does not have a blue-on-red icon color scheme:

I'll probably borrow the color theme from the Germans -- dark grey and light grey -- in keeping with the "Blue and the Grey" theme.

I didn't want to say it but that has been bugging me all night. Especially because I couldn't figure out why it was bothering me at first.

I've been pretty disappointed by the Civ V Scenarios. Into the Renaissance was particularly awful - I don't know what they were thinking with that one, it's virtually unplayable. So I don't have high hopes for these.
What made it unplayable for you? I personally loved the scenario.

And ontopic: Obviously the SfA scenario. The ACW is less interesting for me, being so 'far away' and limited in possibilities. SfA promises a lot of fun and variation.

I thought that not having all of Europe already settled was a pretty lame cop out. It meant that rather than calling Crusades like what the scenario was supposed to do, you ended up fighting your neighbors over land that should have already been settled.

Fair point, there wasn't really much of a crusade due to battles between the neighbours. That was a big miss in the scenario. Perhaps one day they'll release a Deluxe version that would allow this.

Yeah, they seemed to have learned quite a bit from the failure that was the Into the Renaissance Scenario for the Scramble for Africa one. Basic flaws were: 1) Too large a map (takes way too long and you can't even interact with all civs), 2) No development at the start, you build up forever insteaf of being thrown right into the middle, 3) Too close to the basic game in general (I can play that one for my generic gameplay).

I could see a Into the Renaissance scenario with a smaller map, pre-placed cities (a few, not all), hell I could even see it with a Random interior map similar to the Scramble for Africa. Adding Poland, Morocco, Portugal might be fun, but it overloads the map even more. Maybe a smaller map would've been the smarter thing to do here...

I'd love to replay most of the basic scenarios with a BNW update btw.
