Whoever has been so mean to dig that old thread out did cause some stir (deliberately or not).
 
If you start with Barbarian cities on a larger map, then For the Horde gives the Clan a big jumpstart. With units all over the map, they can grab far more than their share of the Tribal Villages and get a big tech lead as well as enough gold to cover the unit costs. If they can get three units together, then they will be able to grab a city, too.
