White screen upon victory

Hi, i recently bought Civ3 gold edition/civ city rome double pack. I had trouble installing civ city gold but after searching i installed it fine, and now run it on my toshiba laptop with operating system windows 7, however i run civ3 gold through windows xp and as administrator.

My problem is that every time i win, and right as the little barbarian is about to swing his mallet and give me my ranking, the screen goes white saying civ3x is not responding.

How can I fix this? Thank you

I must say, there`s such a thread already, even through in that one the game crashed after viewing histograph.

Set Compatiblity mode to Win XP SP2 and you should go through all victory(/loss) screens finely. The game may get sluggish as a result through...

I have the same problem as Mike8123 - white screen when I click during the first victory screen. I'm playing Civ3 PTW. I tried setting the Compatibility mode to Win XP SP2 but that didn't fix the intro video going to a white screen. I figured it wouldn't fix the victory screens either and went back to disable visual themes and desktop composition to see if that would help.
However somewhere in all of this all of my saved games disappeared. Even the autosaves are gone.
I don't think this has anything to do with my problem but while I was playing with the compatibility the antivirus/computer health program PC Tools Performance Toolkit ran its registry scan. It always finds a couple of faulty file extensions and I clicked repair without reading what they were. It sets a restore point everytime so I went back two days but that didn't help anything.
