A Big Navy is a considerable choice for you in Civ V? You haven't played enough then. The AI pretty much has no navy all the time.

Which only makes a large navy that much more effective. I don't build what one would likely call a "large" navy (large militaries really aren't needed in this game in my experience), but the navy I have comes in very handy.

I haven't needed a large Navy either.

10 ships can be a vast armada in this game, which is a bit sad, really...

I don't point at your post count. I point at your joining date.

As someone whose joining date is even earlier than yours, may I point out that a late joining date means absolutely nothing? You have no idea whether a person with a late joining date has been active here when the site was opened, but forgot his password at some point in between, or if it's someone who's been a high profile member at another Civ site and just recently switched to CivFanatics. It's as useless and invalid to form any kind of argument than a user's post count. Apart from that, I wouldn't even rule out the possibility that someone might be able to form a coherent line of thought without having several years of Civ experience on his back. ;)

And i don't see how newbies should be any more respectful than us old farts. Respect is the basis of any good discussion and is independent of post count and joining date as well.

Come on ricardo, I enjoyed your intelligent analysis of the shortcomings of 1upt, you certainly can do better than that. :) I really have to agree with Celevin here, it's the strength of an argument that matters, not the post count or joining date of the person who's making it. Therefore it's the argument that should be addressed, not the user statistics of the person that made it.

That being said Firaxis has some things they most take care about... first thing the AI. I have rarely seen such a bad battle AI since I started playing computer strategy games 1985 or so. Even though I said the game is very well balanced it can be awhole lotta better, and with the gamedesign they have constructed for CIV 5 it's all about the balance.
That's were alot go wrong. They love the 1upt rule and blame the bad battle AI.
But it's not the "worst" battle Ai since 1985. The battle AI have ALWAYS been bad. The reason you asume that it is worse; is because the AI have less units to make up for its "poor AI" and on top of that the AI cannot "protect" his weaker forces due to the 1 UPT rules.

Hoping that the AI will become any more intelligent is wishfull thinking. Forget it, it will never happen. The only thing that works, and worked since CIV 1; is bonusses for the AI-civs.
You want more "challenge"; = more units for the AI-Civs, cheaper units, more gold, you name it.
Anything BUT intelligence.

That's why i think they should go back to a SOD system; atleast then it wasn't so pretty clear that the AI-warfare sucks and/or you still had to put a hard fight.

Although, effectively, whether 49.8% or 50.2% of voters agree with a statement, doesn't mean that much, does it? :)

I think the, hm, "quality standards" of a self-selective forum poll in the context of a heated debate are probably not high enough to put any real meaning into this difference. I do think that the trend demonstrated in this poll is valid, especially if backed up with independent sources (e.g. user reviews elsewhere), and I do think that it shows that the level of disappointment with Civ5 is fairly high. But whether the result is slightly below or slightly above 50% is probably more a psychological issue than one that could be interpreted seriously (imho).

Yes, yes, and yes! Heck, didn't I say as much here: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=9743334&postcount=646?

But Yosef took so much flak when he jumped the gun a bit talking about a majority (he did have majority of those expressing a preference at the time), that I can imagine that he is looking forward to some vindication.

I can see that anyone who made the argument "it's only a plurality, not a majority" actually the basis of one's dismissal of the poll might be in a slightly awkward position now, and certainly in need of a better argument, yes. ;)

Fact: 771 civfanatics have voted that the game has been dumbed down. Even though their expectations were insanely high, they are still supposed to be the real "fanboys"... When my favourite band release a new album, I usually listen to it a lot even though it might be worse than the last one. But when I realise that I have more fun at work than when I play this game, I realise that there is something that went horribly wrong.
