I only recently found out that some anime are exactly the kind of shows I was looking for all my life (kind of), i.e. serious, interesting Sci-Fi and stories, where I had to grow up with He-Man an the like, which I knew even as a child it sucked :p

If all you know about anime is pokemon and boobies I really recommend you check some other out. Regarding boobies & co., there are of course animes around where there are strange tendencies (typically Japanese, if you know what I mean), but there are also some great shows were it is not the case.

But if you start with more popular things like Ghost in the Shell or Princess Mononoke/Spirited away (movies), you can't do much wrong and I think they give you a good idea what anime can be like..

Ah yes, the wonders of Miazaki(sp?). He is truly the master of his craft. I love how I can feel like a child again, with wonder, and amazement, and everything is soo big! He fills the imagination with infanite possiblity and grants me a passage back through time when innocence and joy and wonder were the norm.

Truly, one of the greats.

@Wilboman Ya, I didnt know how to spell it, but people sort of got it. Also, for momentary vulgarity - "Slik Min Pick Dit Norsk Svin". A Dainish dude I met once taught me that phrase, so that I could insult my best friend (Who is of Norweigen decent). I'm dainsh heritage, he's norwiegen, and he actually KNOWS some of the language, so he'd say things at me, i always suspected were lowbrow. I learned that little baby to retort. (I dont mean it, by the way).

I actually thought of gun towers spewing their two cents at you when I first saw Opinion Turrets:lol: But then again I think I sort of missed the context.

The 100% correct Norwegian spelling would be "Slikk pikken min, ditt norske svin", in case you really want to impress/horrify your friend, and hey, if you need more, or a quick deciphering, just ask:D As for your disclaimer, I hope you didn't; tight shorts aside, I'm afraid I don't quite swing that way, and I wouldn't want to hurt your feelings by turning your delightful offer down:p

I'm glad the profanity bot only goes for english. Grey Fox is probably suitably shocked at the language, though.

Profanity never shocks me, heh.

Actually the slurs I gave were in Dainish. I asked a dainish dude how to say it, so i could insult my norwiegen friend, who always was harping on me in norweigen. It's all scandihoovian anyway.

EDIT: I have a strange feeling people are wondering about that "non-homo-errotic-relationship" now, especially if they knew what i said. Still, most prolly dont.

I can understand Danish when it is written. But when they talk its like a swede with a potatoe stuck in their troat talking in tongues. But sometimes, or pretty often you can atleast understand them somewhat. Especially when they try to make their speach understandable or swedified.
Also, they say numbers backwards, like the germans.

Norwegian is much easier to understand, but it also sounds wimpy. If Danish is a coarser version, Norwegian is more wimpy. Icelandic is too similar to old-norse, and it has developed without influence from the other nordic nations too much to be understandable. Even if I am half-icelandic. Although when I was there, in the village I was in, most people could speak swedish. This is probably not true to the most of Iceland though.

When it comes to understand Swedes, I think both the danish and norwegians, and possibly also the icelandic, have an easier time to understand us then we have understanding them.

Also, when it comes to the finish... well noone understands them, their language is kinda unique in the world. Only language its related to is Hungarian and even then its not very similar what I know. BUT, since Finland was a part of Sweden until Russia took it from us, many finish people know swedish and alot of fins live in sweden. They even teach mandatory swedish in school.

And yes I understood the danish profanity in your text QES, and I dont think people would like it if I translated it to english. :p

'sfunny, most Norwegians think Swedish sounds wimpy and Danish sounds like Norwegian with a particularly vicious throat infection. Oh well, you always love your own language most, I guess.

Vote more for me, or I will topic-jack the world, mwuhahahaha!

QES: I realised the slurs were Danish, I was just thinking, if you really want to confound your "Norwegian" buddy, then hit him with the Norwegian version.

Yeah, but the joke is half-"I wouldnt want to lower myself to norweigen".

Remember, Norweigen pride is strong where I live. And, In fact, there are more Upper Midwest Norweigens than Norweigen..Norweigens. Sorta funny how they outnumber the homeland.

Besides, If i actually acknowledged the Norweigen language, it would give creedance to his claims of superiority and independance from the Danish state. I like to remind EVERYONE in the midwest, that they're basically decendants of my homeland. As Denmark/Dains/First Vikings, pretty much sired all of northern europe, scandinavia, and britian. The Darkages, and Early Middle, and such. Even Sweeden and Norway. :D.
My excuse has always been that "it was too cold and uninteresting to keep, so we "let" norway have its independance, same with sweeden." And before you mention denmarks lackluster-landscapes, i know. That just adds to the insult :).

@SeZereth Whoa! I never said that the judges couldnt be bribed!

How did this Scandinavian controversy even get started in the first place? And should I be offended because I'm Danish and speak with weird throat infection noises?:p Am I supposed to stand up and defend my homeland valiantly now?
True to my namesake character I should probably cast a Peace spell and end it right here...(or perhaps I've played too much FFH).

That's a quite shocking bit of profanity by the way, you'd better hope there's no Scandinavian moderators around...

Interesting to see how two-thirds of the writing team is, in fact, Scandinavian (I'm using the expanded definition here), rather than American, Anglo-Saxon or whatnot.

I've got nothing but love for those of scandihoovian nature/decent. Ya gotta remember, that little wisp of vulgarity is the only danish i know. I make a crappy Dain. Though im 75% Dainish.

I'm not sure how Scandinavian studies entered this thread, but I agree, that there seems to be a realitively high amoung of scandinavian influence around here. I see this as a good thing. And besides, Sweedes, Norweigens, Dains, and American Kin all working together to frustrate a man from Ohio? What more could one ask for?

I should add that they don't speak proper Swedish in Sweden. When I visited Sweden, I went to a McDonalds and had severe difficulty making out what the heck the clerk was saying. (Bizarrely, when I later on played the Once Upon a Time card-storytelling game with ten people, I had no trouble making out what they said. But that's beside the point.) To hear Swedish as it's supposed to be spoken, listen to the Swedish-speakers in Finland.

;)

You were probably visiting Skåne. Not even Swedes understand Swedes from Skåne.

Oh, no excuse then. Well, maybe they speak "impenetrable" too. I'm not too hot on Swedish dialects.

They speak pretty clear, maybe a bit snobby.

Just felt the need to point out that it's written Norwegian.
