Who misses Civ 2's videos?

Did you like the vids?

I wanted to say "Ergo, video = bad", but then that might be interpretated as "Thus, I see = bad", so I changed it to "Videre = malum", implying that a movie is the subject of videre, also gapping "in civilization IV" (and don't dispute that because I'm gonna say Civilization is a neuter word), so it kinda makes sense.

Give me credit for getting the adjective-noun correct, at least! :)

THe CIV 2 videos are funny and wonder movies are great because they add a little reward to completing a wonder.

I think they should ad the National Health Service to CIV 4 as a wonder of the world!

Also Civspecific to the English only!!! cant have the damned Yanks Buliding it! Wouldnt be very realistic!!! :crazyeye:

great! save that for a PM.

Why dont you keep relevant to the thread?

The reward you got wen completing a Wonder was certainly more felt in Civ2.... perhaps it lead us to that "Wonder Addiction" some people suffer with...

I most definitly miss the videos of Civ 2. The music for some of them was really cool. And the council was alright. Afterall you could always turn them off if you didn't want them. Personally I was let down by the splashed in Civ 3. I never had a factor of "awe" when i saw the CGI, as opposde to the awe i recieves when i built, say, the Pyramids in Civ 2. Of course i was younger, but still, I think the videos added production value to the package. It gave the gamer something interesting to really draw him into the world of the game, especially if he was a first time player. There's something personal about having a council talking to you, and ambient about the videos, as though you're there. Sadly, i feel these conveyances are absent from Civ 3. It's too easy to just look at the splash and think, oh, this is a computer game. Dont get me wrong, I'm not dillusional about the fact it's a computer game, but, still, we play these games to help us escape from the world at large and I feel the videos in civ 2 helped us do that and the "splashes" in civ 3 are detremental thereof.

I just started playing SMAC again and am reminded how much more atmospheric it is than Civ3. (I've never played Civ2(!)). I feel like the SMAC developers spent more time getting the tone of the game down, though of course SMAC was an entirely different storyline than the other Civ games. In the final analysis I like Civ3's gameplay much more. If Civ4 has at least as good gameplay as 3, and the atmosphere of SMAC (with a real sense of history and drama rather than mystery, I guess), I'd be in heaven.

what IS SMAC?

Sid Maier's Alpha Centauri

Ah... but y? noone writes SMCIV do they!?!?

clears a lot of confusing threads tho, cheers!

Smacking is now illegal ;)

(If you don't get the joke, trust me, it's relevant)
