who needs stacking for embarked units?

I vote don’t change it. The AI is horrible enough as it is moving invasion fleets across oceans. If they couldn’t do this they would get even worse while most players would be fine protecting their fleets.
 
we had transport ships in previous civ versions ... but they were annoying. always in the wrong place.

embarkation is more elegant imho. but of course it creates its own set of issues. on the other hand most embarkation-related bugs have been fixed by now, so it's not a pressing problem.
 
As everyone has said here, bad idea. Units needs naval escorts and it's a welcome addition. However, I forget if you're able to do this, stacking multiple land units on top of one another while embarking, I can be against that. But to not allow a naval unit to be on top of a land unit? No thanks.
 
If I disregard the fact that we're going gold (which favour the "no changes"), I would be in favour of changing the embarquement system because:

1) We could allow capture of embarked workers, which is something I really want.
2) Embarked units needing an escort to survive is bad for the AI.

So I would make embarked units not stack with naval units, but have a very good combat strength for defense, but cannot attack while embarked. (Can still attack while disembarking)

But that's a lot of changes. And will lead to "too many units for so few tiles" o'n sea, similarly to what we have on land.
 
It would also, as many have stated in this thread, destroy naval balance because making embarked units significantly stronger is a huge nerf to navies. It's already harder than I remember it being in vanilla to destroy embarked units; if this is significantly increased then in many situations I would probably stop bothering to build a navy in the first place and just make more land/air units to kill them near the coast or when they disembark on my shores. There just doesn't seem to be a good, easy solution here.

I would, however, like an added feature of being able to capture embarked civilians.
 
I have coded special abilities for modmods which give bonuses to embarked units when stacked. This would mess that up. So, albeit from a purely selfish standpoint, I’m against this.
