Why can't I plant woods here?

??!!! Wow. Close to 500 hours in this game and i had no idea you could plant trees! So plant, chop, plant chop, plant chop; now I understand everyone's obsession with chopping!! Infinitely renewable resources!

I have no idea about your question though; obviously. Sorry.

Woods that you plant don't give you production for chopping. You only plant them for tile appeal, or to put lumber mills on.

I've run across this as well. No idea why its happening. Might be a bug?

I've seen people here hypothesizing that you can't plant woods next to lake, but, well, no lake.

Maybe there's a Uranium under there that is unrevealed?

Yes, I had a similar experience. I tried to plant trees on a particular tile and could not. Later on, it was revealed that there was indeed Uranium underneath it. A shame, I had already designated it as a national park. Can't very well blow it up to put a mine down either.

I don’t believe the existence of a strategic resource would negate the ability to place an improvement, or in the case trees. I’ve had to tear down farms to put up niter mines before.

It seems like a bug, but I don’t know. Perhaps you can try rebooting the game?

Oh, and I think Uranium can appear in Forests...

Edit: apparently the user above has experienced differently. Carry on then. :p

You can not improve tiles in a national park. End of story, no if-and-or-buts.

I second the idea that Lakes are toxic to forests. Can confirm in my latest game.

Yes resources block trees. As well as lakes.

I think even if it's cows that you chopped 130 turns ago, it'll block trees later. So keep that in mind for later.

I'm still learning so much myself. I just realized trees add appeal to adjacent tiles... Like 15 games later I finally realize why some of my Resorts would drop to charming and 3 gold... And if I ever got first pick on Pantheons I always loved getting Earth Goddess.... wish I would have realized that earlier... After figuring it out and strategically placing some trees and lumber mills (instead of just strip mining) my faith jumped from 350 to 500 per turn in may last game.

Strategy resource block planting trees, and in that era the most common one is the Uranium.
