In this game I am playing I have one town I captured from the romans(Veii). Its harbor was still intact, and there was a dye 1 tile from the town with a road leading up to it. This meant that my cities on my other continent got 1 extra lux, great!

Then all of a sudden Veii won't connect to my cities in the homeland. Why!! It used to work, now it doesn't.

If anybody knows why, please reply. Thx :D

I have added a .sav file where you can see for yourself.

The key point is that you are still too far down on the tech tree and have not discovered astronomy yet. Astronomy is the prerequisite that allows harbors to connect across sea squares.

If you look closely at you two captured roman cities you will see that they are trading the dyes because they are connected by coastal squares. This is the definitition of local trading by water.

The rest of you main empire is too far separated from the conquered territory because there are gaps made up of sea squares that your galleys can jump across but that trade is restricted across until you get astronomy of the great lighthouse.

This is why the rest of your empire will not be able to benefit from the dyes luxury resource until you advance a bit further in technology or wonders.

I am pretty sure this never worked the way you were thinking it worked, it may have been that the other experiences you had were actually connected by the lucky coastal bridge.

Good luck

Thx, cracker. The point is I thought, I was even certain that I had seen my cities on my homeland get dye and seen Veii get resources from the homeland. I went through my earlier saves to so I could attach it. But I couldn't find a single one where the towns were connected. Have I just imagined it, because you(cracker) say that you cannot trade across sea squares before Astronomy, that makes sense, and I can't find a save where they are connected.

I must have dreamt it or something, very strange....

You must have astronomy AND magnetism.
