im playing warlord, the year is 1925ad.
there was 3 of us fighting the same guy...me(english) the french and the perisian civ who nearly defeated the malinese empire.
all of a sudden the 2 others made peace with him, the game made peace with his and my civ automatically also the malinese became a vassal state to the french! all in the same turn!
i talked to both of them, they hate each other. whats going on?
i had a great relationship with the french and a good one with the perisian, i dont understand it. is there a rule i dont know about or some wonder?

when mali became a vassal, he was automatically at peace with you because his master was at peace with you

why did they pair up? they hate each other and the mali didnt have anything to offer.
but thanks, its the first time ive seen anything to do with vassal states otherthan the french pestering me about it.

a vassal agreement is about protection, and Mali need protection from you and persia, so it went to france, but it could've just as easily been persia or you

When you're worried about your opponent becoming a vassal to someone else you need to take steps to prevent it. Maybe in a multi-allied war, you convince your other 2 allies to declare peace early once the tide has turned. They'll be less likely to pickup a vassal which will put them immediately at war with you. Or you can keep checking the trade screen and ask for capitulation as soon as you've reached your objectives.

I've found that since the 2.08 patch (or maybe Warlords) that the AI that I'm skull-thumping will rarely offer capitulation unasked. So now I start checking the trade screen regularly and make sure that my partners in the war get out early.
