Why did the jews leave and returned in 1948?

The vast majority of Jews in Europe have never been rich.

The Jews have been used as money lenders, as rent and tax collectors etc. in various places (from Poland to France), feeding popular antisemitism. Necessary but extremely unpopular social services. They were often expressly forbidden to do almost anything else. So, the Jews got to do the dirty work of kings and nobles and when these couldn't repay their debts, the Jews would more often than not be booted out of the country. Common folk would resent them since often some Jew would turn up to reposess the pig. The pig would ususally end up with some god-fearing christian nobleman.

However, if you look to the first crusade, the ideological content goes well beyond resentment of economic success. "Rich gits" was less a factor than "Christ killers".

But a lot of jews fled Spain during the inquisition and counter-reformation, they mostly fled to Istanbul or Holland (If I remember correctly)... though this was ofcourse much later: but I assume that the progress started with the shift in muslim/christian power in Iberia and Anatolia.

A very interesting fact:
The Land of Israel remained a desert for almost 2000 years and suddenly only during some 50 years it became a garden with flowers.
I read something about this that it was exactly as prophesied.
And that directly shows who is the owner of the land.
If you don't beleive me - visit Israel and compare Negev and Eilat.

But Negev is part of Israel since 1948, and is still a desert. You are just contradicting yourself mate
