Flower Power.. War is unhealthy for children and other living things..

I normally try to get them to declare war on me, but in my latest game I had a Civ declare war because I wanted it techs. Besides they were always looking down their noses at my Civ thinking they were better. Well I showed them, the snivalling little..

The object to all my games are to wipe out all other Civs. Actually I like giving them a small island to live out their meager existence.

You missed the option of the polls i would have probably voted for.
boredom
during the last 1 and a half ages their is very little else to do.

all of the above

and sometimes i declare war as early as possible and bring in the other AI to join me as it

a)slows down the AI research when they are warring
b)appears to create some hate between the AI causing more AI wars than usual throughout the whole game and re-inforcing point a)

I usually only declare war unless the other civs start it.... then, I am usually able to immediately kick their ass and keep the carnage rolling! Call me reactionary (I gave peace a chance, and it didn't give me one!!) :)

Well, they are other options I forgot to put as well.It didn't thought of that-I usually grow tired of wars, not peace-but it is too late.

Well, call ME reactionary too, because it happens to me most of the time as well!

I declare war as soon as either of these situations arises -

1 - I have just hooked up Iron.

2 - I need to fight to get Iron.

and then I stay at war more or less the rest of the game until the world is my rubble :hammer:

I like WAR!

Don't you get tired of leaving ruins behind you which are percieved as your state?

What do you mean by 'percieved as your state'? Do ruins have some kind of adverse effect on your civ?

I usually irrigate over the Ruins and get rid of them. Although if they have a detrimental affect I might view my stratagy differantly.

Also, because I'm a bloodthirsty warnonger I get great pleasure from capturing towns instead of razing, and then STARVING the population down to the last infant! :)

STARVATION and WAR! Thats what Civs all about in my book :)

The first reason (and usually the second and third) I declare war is for resources/luxuries, so I chose that.

I go for domination in the end most of the time though so that is my second choice. But without first going for those much needed resources, the second choice would not be an option.

Voted the best approx, which was resources.

Generally you need to conquere at least one civ to have a good chance at victory.

Whichever neighbor is the weakest when I gather my troops should beware.

I recently finished a game as the Egyptians on Regent level.

I began the game with the intent of being a peaceful builder and set a 100k cultural victory as my goal.

After the period of initial expansion, I settled down and concentrated on building lots of cultural improvements. Any city that was finished building all of the cultural improvements built marketplaces/harbors/aqueducts as needed. When all useful improvements were built, I set these "maxed-out" cities to build military units.

The plan was, once I got what I felt was enough military units, I would attack my weakest neighbor and take some land. It's a logical-enough plan - maximize the land you have, and then get more land. Rinse and repeat.

What happened in this game? My trade and production were unrivaled. I got a strong tech lead, so when I got "enough" military units together, I attacked - only to discover that my Infantry and Tanks were facing enemy Pikemen and Musketmen. I continued to follow my original strategy - concentrate on improving the land I had, then take more. Even with this "take your time" strategy, my military took so much land that, in 1590, I won a domination victory. (I was probably a couple hundred years away from my planned cultural victory.)

So in my case, the reason for declaring war was that I had nothing else to do.

A strategy that worked a little too well...

All of the above but mainly to achieve domination/conquest victory and control resources and luxuries. It seem I'm always at war, I start going to war right from the start.

I hate getting the conquest victory.

Then again, it might be because the only one I've ever gotten was one on a huge continental map where I had to deal with 100+ cities and razed the other 100+ cities...

..which is why I generally choose the easy way out and be nice and peaceful for the diplomatic victory.

In the beginning, I usually declare war because of needed land and resources.... But if the computer declared war on me first, then treatied.... I wait for a weak moment, then the perp dies..... REVENGE IS MINE!!!

I go to war to get great leaders so I can build armies so I get all those military small wonders so I can boost my capital's cultural output so I can win a one city cultural victory!

Culture!

I apologize. I didn't say it right. I didn't mean actual ruins, I mean the poor, small and high-corruption cities, the unimproved land, which lacks of roads above all, the lack of culture, the unguarded cities. It happens to me all the time the following thing: I have a small, well organized state before the war, and after it I have a huge, paralyzed state which gets me tired to organize.
