I declare war because of trivial matters in most cases...like a settler wandering through my territory, or the opposing civs leader might be annoyingly ugly. :D

Because they are there and weaker than you? Why else?

Resources/luxuries definitely. I've even declared war because I want a city that has both coal/iron in its radii, so that I could build the Iron works.

All of the above and more.

Why do you have to have a reason. :satan:

I agree with Pounder sometimes I declare war just for the heck of it.
Some reasons (besides the ones listed in the poll):
1. I want to deprive the enemy of a resource
2. I want to prehempt (especially Germans)
3. I want to make them pay for daring to ask me a tribute
4. I want to help out a nice civ by beating up their bully

Many times the damn AI just deserves to get spanked. There is usually much land just out there for the taking but it just has to develop in my direction. I try to tell them if you place a settler there he will become laborers but they never listen. I especially get annoyed when they go for the permafrost regions. Its like can't you understand this is my territory.

Then of course there is the call of the citizens chafing under opposition rule. They yearn to breathe free so I send my hordes to help them. :goodjob:

My usual tactic is to conquer 1 continent and to develop on it untill I reach the end of the game or when I discover most techs. So the guys on my continent are pretty much doomed. However sometimes the AI gets so annoying by demanding techs or money or settling on my continent. Then I send out a peace keeping mission: bombers (waves after waves), missiles, occasional invasions and a big fleet protecting the whole thing. I love being a superpower!

Either to achieve some victory or because they did something evil like deciding to build cities on my island, or their territory looking like a good addition to my empire, or because I have nothing better to do, or if I get paid well enough to do it by another civ.

Gotta be for resources. Why pay or trade when you can just take?!

:devil2:
Because of the risk to lose what you already have. (He who wants more, loses even the few he has)

Pre-emptive strikes. Yes we've all heard of those ;). Actually come to think about it I do that in Civ.

These are the reasons I go to war...

1-To get resources
2-They are becoming too powerful
3-I feel constricted and need more territory
4-They consistently piss me off

...in no particular order.
