I have been playing civilization2 for 3 years now and i am still playing. I did not play in a halv year, but then suddently one day in november i got the Civilization (feeling) and i just had to play it again. I have played a lot of others strategy games but never have i had this feeling about a game before.

I think that proves that civilization is the best strategy game ever made!

Thank you --- Sid Meier

My civ page (in Danish) not finished - yet

I am with Per the great.

i have been playing on and off for years. Sometime i will not play civ 2 for months but i always eventually install it again. It is one of the best games i have ever brought and my fingers are crossed that my out-dated computer will be able to run Civ 3

My friend just intruduced me to Civ2 a month or two ago, and I have been addicted since. I have a blast playing it and it is all I talk about sometimes. Also, I have caused two other people to purchase it and get hooked. Very, very good game. It is the best computer game I have ever played in my limited gaming experience.

I have been playing Civ2 ever since I changed over from CivNet because it's blend of warfare and city management are fun. As to SMAC, I have the game but don't like how the landforms look or the sciences that are gained. Is there a way to change this, like a mod to make the game more like Civ2?

Im new to this site, but Im an avid Civ player and have been for the last 10 years. I still have the original copies on 3.5" disks. I used to be in the civ league but I thought I would try this site on for size. I will agree with all of you that I have not been able to step away for more than a matter of months. Im in the navy and when I go out to sea I have a lot of time to learn new strategies with this game. I also like SMAC but have not played it a lot yet.

I find that I get bored of Civ II after playing 4-5 games. However i ALWAYS end up coming back. No other game has ever held my interest as long as Civilization. Usually certain movies/books reignite my interest in the game - anything that has to do with war strategy or geo-politics. For instance after reading Tom Clancy's "Red Storm Rising" I had this incredible urge to play again. I recently saw the movie "13 days" and THAT fired me up to play once more.

In high school I took a senior level course called "Ancient Civilizations"... I spent more time playing civ that semester than i did doing homework. LOL

The AI in SMAC are much better opponents then in Civ2!! I have experienced several games where the AI had more cities then me, they are very good at expanding.
The thing about the AI in SMAC are that they follow the guidelines very well, they all have a specific nature and they follow it, and by doing that they gain the most of their advantages/disadvantages and that makes them much more challenging opponents.

I've played alot of different games like Tomb Raider, Warzone 2100, Starcraft, Descent Freespace, Caeser 3 etc. but once you beat them your done. Civ 2 is a good ol' standby. Its fun and different each time and I don't have learn how to play it. Like a card game its rules stay the same but what your dealt always changes. *note i copied this from another reply of mine

Civilization II is the only game worthy of me playing it for years, and it is the only game that is worthy of carrying the name. CTP, ToT, and SMAC are all pollutants to the otherwise fine Civilization name.

...Of course, I've never touched any of those...still, civ 2 rules.

Bluemonday - I partly agree with you, Civ2 really rules and games like CTP and ToT really suck. But SMAC is a really great game that has almost everything in common with Civ2 so I think that you should at least try it out before you condemn it along side CTP!!!!!!!

Veni Vidi Vici.

As shadowdale said SMAC is really more like civ as CTP , you shouldnt talk of both in one sentence . While i agree that CTP is crap and has nothing to do with civ , SMAC is even better than civ , because you have the same game mechanics but the comp players are *much* better , which makes it more fun to play solo.
Blue Monday , give it a try and dont miss this great Sid Meier game .

I didn't get that real Civ-feeling with SMAC, nor with CTP. I think it has to do with nostalgia and originality. Two years ago I studied a year in Mexico (hence my nickname

) and the only gamea that were playable on the primitve computers over there were civilization and colonization. I played those games a whole year and when I came back, SMAC appeared, but I didn't experience not nearly as much fun as with CIV, and SMC.

The whole point in Civ II is multiplayer capabilities.
Build Great Wall and it does nothing to relations, for instance.
