Why does Civ/C3C lag so much?

Please dont take this as a flame as the game is genuinely really good, and i still enjoy MP C3C.

However that said, the game **appears** to be the most laggiest badly netcoded games ever. Having played many multiplayer games from RTS to FPS like CS and Quake (where response times is in the 100ths of a second), i cannot understand how a game can be permitted to be in this state. I can understand there might of been lag in certain circumstances (large battles etc) but not in simply moving my worker 1 square to the right. It appears the game uses zero client prediction and relies on every computer agreeing right down to the slowest one.

I dont know that anything can be done about it, maybe someone will notice. The only reason why the lag is bearable is because the game is so good , at times tho after the 10th drop and reload you begin to wonder....

:(

Bad bad bad bad bad bad coding. And extremely low focus on the multiplayer aspect. Imagine, Civ must be one of the very few games who come out without mp in their original release.

i get the lag in lan games, units seem to wait a sec or two before
moving
one strange thing is
in ptw 1.04f there is no lag but anything higher the lag is there

I always get large lag, but not until later on in the game. It does seem as though every computer does all the computing, not just the host (the host should just do all the AI computing, then send it to the players). I only play on LAN, so I know it's not the connection speed. But usally one of the computers is like 500 mhz, and that is probably what slows it.

I notice the lag as well. Is this meant to be, does C3C simply not like me? I play with friends that all live fairly close to me, have decent computers (Pentium 3's +), and I still experience lag. Also, C3C does not seem capable of loading a game with 4+ players.

I get the loading problem with 4+ players as well. I also have decent ping to my peers ( all hispeed ADSL), however it still lags more than quake1 did on my 33.3kbps dialup.
