That is lucky, or you must not be taking capitals. Since they patched "AI will recognize when you've conquered their original capital" I am sure to get a denouncement the turn after peace. You can even see the negative modifier on the drop down.

You got it in one: I avoid taking capitols. If I'm DoWd I'll take enough cities to cripple the Civ but not the capitol. Cultural is my victory condition of choice and a prolonged war, unless you're the Aztecs and/or you've taken Honor, can often derail a Culture victory.
