Why is Civillization 3 so addicative?

Replayability. It is never the same game twice.

not even the same save twice, that and the "one more turn syndrome' mixed in with a little bit of " Im king of the world... and besides who here doesnt like being in almost total control???

Civ 3 gives us control.....sometimes..lol

I think that lust for power could at least be the beginning of a good academic thought... You can't very well right a paper like "Civ III is super addictive because the of 'one more turn' syndrome'", however, something like "Civ III as Evidence of Man's Lust for Power" might actually be something appropriate for an essay.

I enjoy the fact that there is no one, single way of playing the game that's always best. I can play Always War, One City Challenge, go for various victory types that dictate different styles of play.
Within the game, I'm constantly forced to make choices to which there's no obvious "right" answer. Choice of government, for example. If I choose a government type that allows me to make war easily, with little or no War Weariness and lots of unit support, I'm giving up something else - income, rapid scientific research, etc.

Same here :goodjob: , It must be a Carolina thing ;) .

hmmm....there's a bunch of reasons for me:

first is probably 'modding' civ3 in my own fashion. this takes on a life unto itself.

i'd have to say that adding in a bunch of different sub units, G/A aircraft, fighter-bombers, self propelled arty....the list could go on and on and on...but the bottom line is that the possibilities and diversity of civ3 is themost addicting part for me.

I have an English project on what makes Civillization III so addicative. I need a 3,000 word essay and a 15 miute oral presentation.

So I need to know what makes Civillization III so addicative.

I would appreicate if the mods could sticky this and as many peple could respond as possible.

Your English teacher allowed to write? Must be a cool teacher  !

I would say that the flexablity and broadness of the game are the main factors in the game. The mechanics allows for a wide range of playstyles, depending on the temperment of players.

El Justo has the idea. Not only is the play of the game complicated and subtle, but even after I mastered that to my satisfaction, the game is so hackable that I just tweak something a little to get a new game.

It's different each time and you can even mod it. Well made in general, too.

One reason its so addictive is the urge to strive for the "perfect game", where everything falls into place and a spectacular victory insues. It is this never fuffilled dreams that keeps people playing.
