Why is it an "illegal operation?"

Get openTTD (http://openttd.org ). It's much better. You still need some files of the orignal TTD first however.

Yeah, I've been using OpenTTD, but I wanted to see if I could get the original one going. Also, I think TTDPatch can get it working, but I haven't gotten around to downloading it yet.

When I got my first illegal operation, I asked mom what it meant. She said "the program wasn't cooperating with Windows, so Windows shut it down." Or something like that.

The Bill Gates Mafia! I knew it!

The thing I hate most about the computer 'laws' is when it says "You do not have permission to access/edit this file". I own the computer; of course I have the right to use it!

I went into a cursing rage a month or so ago when Windows told me I couldn't remove an update.

Then I went into a screaming rage when Windows Update replaced a working drive with a non-working one.

You'd be amazed how often people hosed their computers by deleting important files, back before MS made it more difficult to delete important files.

Sounds like you have the file open already to me ;)

I did it eventually, but it took a long time to get it to work. I can't understand what possessed it to mark them as 'Do Not Read', though.

There are programs that let you delete locked files on reboot.

Protecting the average person from messing up the system only requires obscuring the way to access files. It seems vista has been doing things at the kernal level (can't recall what exactly, though) as if I remember rightly, when vista was released ms was battling an image of a system that couldn't handle a virus attack.

What do you call a move in chess where you move your pawn 3 squares forwards and one to the side?

I was thinking 'en passant' for a moment there until I forced myself to remember how that went
