Why not 2 July?

Realllyyy? Are you part of the dev team? I doubt it is finished now. If anyone let me guess, They might listening the theme of the 5 civ that's announced later, debug things and AI, test the game or finishing some main system.

In short, They would refining the game so there would have no torrent of blame if they release the game a week before.

I agree. Actually, developers should have a list of issues to be done. The list is not empty now and will not be empty by the game release, but they'll so as much as possible by the release. The rest of the things will come to patches together with new issues discovered.

Uh, I am amazed noone mentioned this yet, but for Europe the launch date is July 15th...

Or have they finally changed that silly launch schedule of them and finally bring it out at the same time as America?

It is a digital release for crying out loud!

It's July 12th; I agree with the frustration you're feeling actually; but that soon dissipates once the three extra days go past. I understand it's based on when shelves are stocked in each global region and that digital downloads have to comply with that. You'd think that in 2013 that the powers that be would resolve it, but apparently they won't.

yeah I was surprised, we actually got the 5th this year too, though we need a "skeleton crew", but I didn't draw the short stick!

anyway I look at the calendar and see I will be off from the 4th until the 7th, only 2 days away, but by then I'll be so far behind at work (deadlines on the 10th) and losing 2 business days to do that in, that I will be unable to take off :(, oh well, I can celebrate with the rest of the world on the 12th after 5pm!:king:

We didn't actually get the 5th off. We were just encouraged to use one of our vacation days for it. To give further encouragement, they're taking down most of our enterprise systems for upgrades, the cafeteria will be closed, they probably won't turn on the A/C, and they might even remind people that the weather where I work is usually awesome at that time of the year.

It's not a legal thing. They just don't want to annoy their retail customers, which still make up a sizable portion of game sales. I have to say that I find the Civ and Total War and pretty much most historical strategy fanbases to have a similar demographic, where there are a lot of people with ancient computers still preferring boxed copies.

I never said it was "a legal thing" - and you're right, it isn't.

Here's an interesting article I read when looking into this: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2012-11-23-why-are-we-stuck-with-games-being-released-on-a-friday

It cites Football Manager 2013 as getting a global release on Steam and compares the current release schedule to Americans celebrating Christmas on December 25th whilst Europeans have to wait until the 28th to open their presents!

Louis, I'm amazed and slightly worried for your sake. My brother is also taking the Bar Exam that week. He studies about 10 hours a day for it and has time for little else. I have no idea how you have the time to post on civ forums. Best of luck to you.

Thanks. Let's just say I'm good at multitasking. I still study about 8 hours a day, just not in a row. One advice I got is to not dramatically change my habits before the Bar Exam (e.g., if you do Heroin, don't quit Heroin until after the Bar).

I guess I don't know the gaming industry as well as business software development but you NEVER make code changes right before release unless it's a really big bug that can't wait. Hell, I bet the day one patch is even finalized.

Many people use those vacation days to go on vacation, though ;)

July 2nd would be great for us working Americans. Almost all of us have vacation days that week.

You're not getting it released the same day anyway :p

To be honest before the 4th of July holiday in the US would have been a good idea. That long weekend type of thing probably wouldn't have hurt sales. Of course there are a lot of competing things like blockbuster films so perhaps they felt the next weekend was better. I'm sure marketing wise they did their sums.

Because of China, there is no Tibet. Sad. I want a Uyghur faction.

So... China prevents Tibet, but sure... they'll be happy with a Uyghur Civ won't they? China loves it when you represent parts of what is currently China as non-Chinese.

July 9th is "deep" in July? Lol just relax. It's a 7 day difference. I fail to see what gigantic difference it's going to make. We all want it just as bad. I'd rather have it complete than a buggy piece of trash.
