Why preview articles mention 20 civs included in full game?

With the preview copy i got a fact sheet stating that this build has 10 out of 20 leaders.
Not civilizations, leaders. And with all the speculation going around, that difference may prove significant [emoji4]

Gorgo was confirmed in the civilopedia leak, so the 20 leaders are

18 civs
Aztecs
Gorgo as bonus leader for greeks

I think you guys are skipping this post. This guy's has a preview copy.

The data sheet says 20 leaders, not civs. Think Gorgo.

And... ninja'd

From the ArsTechnica preview article: "Even with only 10 of the final 20 leaders available"...

So either Gorgo or Isabella will be added as a second leader for Greece or Spain (Gorgo more likely due to seeing her name in the Civlopedia leak). Or... Firaxis has included Poland / Jadwiga as a surprise civilization.

I'm personally fine with any direction that Firaxis chooses to go as it provides more content and variety to play around with.

The general consensus of the forum what we'll have 18 civs + Aztecs as pre-order bonus + Gorgo. That's the most logical conclusion based on th info we have. This fits "20 leaders", but not "20 civs". Although the latter could easily be misunderstanding by the article author.

It's also possible that they are not counting Aztec (since it's technically DLC and not included at launch) and both Isabella and Gorgo will be available at launch.

Just the weirdest decision of all the leaders in the world to be the sole alternate that they pick Gorgo!

It was discussed several times. The alternative leader to be included in the base game should be just to show the possibility. Leaders which are good selling points are better fit for DLC.

Yes and I was there for that. Still can't get over it. Just the most random choice possible. It's like picking Rachel Jackson to lead America... why. Especially as the only alt leader

I agree with Nightsong that Poland makes more sense than a single 2nd leader to show off the capability, but... it's hard to miss the very specific wording of 20 leaders. Everyone I know references civs as civs, and using the term leaders, to me, seems like a deliberate choice.

Well... the specific wording of 20 leaders can be viewed multiple ways... It could easily mean Gorgo or Isabella as a second leader to Greece or Spain... But it could also very easily mean Jadwiga of Poland.

My main issue with Gorgo being the second leader for Greece at launch is that she is such a random choice. Isabella as a second leader for Spain makes much more sense... especially if it is Isabella of Castille who is very famous and well known.

Eh, we'll find out over the next three weeks what is going on with Civilization VI and how many civilizations / leaders we will have at launch.

My moneys on Gorgo

Well, having Athens and Sparta rulers for Greece is quite good choice itself, if we don't think about personalities.

I would agree with that is an interesting way to represent Greece! It just bothers me that we really know almost nothing of Gorgo so there's really no way to justify her inclusion other than just "Spartan culture" which Leonidas would have represented just as well

Gorgo it will be. Makes 20 leaders and fits fine with the general assumptions made in this forum after the Poster-leak for week....

I saw one that specified 20 leaders. So 18+Aztecs+Gorgo?

Ars Technica explicitly specifies "20 civilizations" (the "20 leaders" quote is later in the same article) which suggests Poland is the missing one, not one of the alternate leaders:

"The good news is that in the 15 hours and several hundred turns I've poured into a pre-release version of the game—which features all of the structural and mechanical features from the retail release, half of the game’s 20 distinct civilisations..."

As for being 'the same as Civ V', I believe 20 - not 19 - is the same as Civ V. Civ V was released with 18 base civs plus Babylon (in the Deluxe Edition), with the Mongols as the pre-order bonus. That Babylon was only made available as a separately purchasable civ after release doesn't change that 20 civs were available at the start.
